II-B.Tech II-Semester Supplementary Examinations April/May 2004 ELECTRONIC DEVICES (Electrical and Electronics Engineering) Time: 3 hours Max. Marks: 70 Answer any FIVE questions All questions carry equal marks --1.a) Distinguish between conductors, semiconductors and insulators with the help of energy band diagrams. Give two examples for each. b) Why does the conductivity of a semiconductor increase and that of a conductor decrease with increase of temperature? c) Distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic semi conductors.

Discuss the motion of electron in an uniform electric field. A d.c. voltage of 200 volts is applied across the plates A and B of a parallel-plate capacitor which are 10cms. apart. Plate A is positive with respect to B. If any electron starts with zero initial velocity from the plate B, calculate (i) the time required to reach the plate A (ii) the velocity of electron when it reaches the plate A.
