Acceptable Behaviours: To help us guide our actions, we expect all those in the school to act on these four R’s: Respect Yourself – care about your learning and yourself Some examples include: Giving your best effort Bing on time, ready to learn Seek help from adult if you feel harmed Respect Others – be considerate of others’ personal feelings (including online) and property Some examples include: Being polite and honest Helping others Walk safely in the halls and near entranceways Respect the Place – show care about your school and your environment Some examples include: Cleaning up after yourself Asking before borrowing Taking care of materials Take Responsibility for your actions – be responsible for both good and bad decisions and actions Some examples include: Telling the truth

The Kent Elementary School Code of Conduct is designed to provide guidelines for appropriate student behaviour while at school, at a school-related activity, or in circumstances where engaging in the activity (including online) will have an impact on the school environment. Rights and Responsibilities Rights
I have the right to learn I have the right to be treated respectfully by adults and other students, regardless of race, gender, religion, colour, culture, sexual orientation &/or ability. I have the right to be safe. I have the right to have my property respected. I have the right to an educational program that develops in me the tools to resolve issues in a safe and respectful manner.
Responsibilities
I have the responsibility to be prepared to learn and allow myself and others to learn. I have the responsibility to show respect to myself, other students and adults, regardless of race, gender, religion, colour, culture, sexual orientation &/or ability. I have the responsibility to behove safely. I have the responsibility to respect the property of the school, myself and others. I have the responsibility to use the tools I have learned in safe and respectful problem solving.
Safe and Respectful School Atmosphere Kent Elementary School and its staff are committed to providing students with an emotionally and physically safe environment for learning. Anything that endangers this climate will not be permitted at school. School and classroom expectations for physical, social and emotional safety will be discussed (including on-line behaviour – ex. social media), posted and enforced to ensure a safe school environment for everyone. These posted expectations will take the form of this code of rights and responsibilities supplemented by pictures and written examples of how safe, respectful behaviour looks. In order for staff to support students, students must let an adult know as soon as they are put in a position that affects their emotional and/or physical safety. Parents are also encouraged to advocate on behalf of their child’s wellbeing to ensure their child is in a safe environment. Unacceptable Behaviours: Unacceptable behaviour can consist of, but is not limited to:
Rudeness, swearing Defiant behaviour Littering Fighting, pushing, kicking and/or dangerous play
Teasing and bullying (physical, emotional) Discrimination based on race, gender, religion, colour, culture, sexual orientation &/or ability. Leaving school grounds without permission Throwing objects Running in the halls or near entranceways
Consequences: consequences will be focused on learning and applied in a fair and consistent manner, respecting individual rights, responsibilities, ability, needs, age and maturity. Unacceptable behaviour typically has the following consequences: (note that special considerations may apply to students with special needs if these students are challenged to comply with the code of conduct due to having a disability of an intellectual, physical, sensory, emotional, or behavioural nature)
Review of Expectations and Restorative Reflection Family is informed when an injury or dangerous situation is created. Restorative action – doing something positive for the person and/or school community Restrictions of space – providing a smaller area with more supervision so the child can be successful Family meeting – time for teacher/family to collaborate on the skills needed and methods to teach Alternative setting – providing an alternative classroom to work in for a short period while the school and family work to determine a plan and put resources in place Police Involvement and Consultation Retaliation concerns: The school and school district will take all reasonable steps to prevent retaliation by a person against a student who has made a complaint.
