2. JOB PURPOSE: Under the supervision of the Head of Communication and Information Technology Services, the ICT Officer is responsible for providing support for information technology related services and functions to the mission in accordance with the ICT work plan.
3. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: •
Support daily information technology services management and support;
•
Provide troubleshooting and ad hoc technical assistance to AMISOM users;
•
Provide instructional training on appropriate use and security of IT system and infrastructure;
•
Maintain and review server system performance;
•
Prepare, maintain, and update files (electronic and paper) and internal databases;
•
Draft documentation and reports;
•
Diagnose and resolve any hardware, software, or connectivity problems with minimum delay;
•
Administer and maintain IT equipment and software including Local Area Network (LAN) hardware and software;
•
Detect problem patterns and recommends solutions;
•
Escalate problems/tasks to the appropriate parties in accordance with established procedure and addresses escalated problems and monitors to resolution;
•
Support preparation of yearly work plans;
•
Perform any other duties as directed/requested.
4. QUALIFICATIONS: A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience in areas such as Information Systems, Information Science or relevant field. 5. EXPERIENCE: At least 4 years of progressively responsible experience in computer technology. Exposure to United Nations (UN) information and communications infrastructure would be an asset as would experience working with a multilateral, regional or international organization.
6. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: •
Ability to work closely with governments, NGOs and multi-lateral institutions in complex political affairs, peace and security undertakings
•
Knowledge of information technology and applications, including computer system networks
•
Good technical skills, ability to conduct network maintenance, provide server services and user support
•
Understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office
•
Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the user’s environment to keep informed and anticipate problems
•
Actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks
•
Demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed;
•
Computer literate and well versed in the use of the Internet, Power Point, Excel and Word;
•
Knowledge of systems design, and development, management, implementation and maintenance of complex information systems
•
Ability to work in a multicultural setting
•
Must be prepared to work in a hardship, highly pressurized and sometimes hazardous environment.
7. AGE REQUIREMENT: Candidates must preferably be between 25 to 35 years old.
8. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of other working languages of the African Union would be an added advantage (Arabic, French and Portuguese). 9. GENDER MAINSTREAMING:

10. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT: The appointment shall be for an initial period of one (1) year, the first three (3) months of which shall be on probation. It shall be renewable subject to performance and availability of funds.
11. REMUNERATION: The salary attached to the position is an annual lump-sum of US$85,121.36 inclusive of all allowances for internationally recruited staff, and US$ 73,517.77 inclusive of all allowances for locally recruited staff
