(a) Define CIM. Write the tasks performed by computer in a CIM environment. How does CIM concept differ from conventional manufacturing concept ? 10+4 (b) Make a comparison between unconnected CAD system and CAD system with Electronic Data Transfer. Define Inspection Accuracy. Discuss the 7+7 factors causing errors in manual inspection and in automated inspection. Discuss the advantages of using CMM over conventional measuring methods. Write at least six applications of CMM.

(a) How do Automated Material Handling 6+8 (AMH) systems improve the efficiency of transportation, storage, and retrieval of materials ? (b) The single command cycle system of a XYZ company has cycle time per operation as 2 minutes. Expected system through put for the corporation is 480 operations per hour. Number of storage space per system height is 15 and total number of storage spaces using a randomized policy is 9000. Assuming storage and retrieval operations take same time, determine : Number of S/R machines. Number of rows; and (iii) Number of bays in each row.
