Excellent Employment Opportunity: COMPUTER NETWORK ENGINEER III INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT POSITION SUMMARY: The City of Oxnard is excited to announce that it is currently accepting applications for the Computer Network Engineer III position within the Information Technology Department. Under direction, provides complex and routine technical support to city-wide PC, Serve, and Midrange computer users, administration of office communication systems and/or local area network operations of the City computers. PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES:
Performs network engineering duties in the design, test and support of network architecture and strategy, network standards, logical network design and network server capacity management; assists in the start-up, shutdowns and recoveries from system halts Oversees and implements projects, installs and implements operating systems, problem solves data accessing for users and oversees security functions; develops and introduces environmental standards through participation in network design. Provides technical support and training in the planning and implementation of LAN and WAN office automation and distributed systems; provides technical support and troubleshooting for hardware and software issues, backup procedures and upgrading existing systems
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education and experience that has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary for a Computer Network Engineer III is considered qualifying. A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the following: Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science Experience: Four years of experience providing routine to complex technical support on a variety of computer applications, local area networks and/or mid-range computers Highly Desirable: Cisco networking experience Candidates may be subject to a background investigation and polygraph
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Operation and function of a variety of computer hardware and software including operating systems, software packages, applications, Enterprise backup functions, Enterprise Anti-Virus, Imaging PCs Installation and support of Local Area Network systems, troubleshooting network connectivity issues; current trends, techniques and software for the City users; receipt, storage and rotation of tapes, paper and other related supplies

Excellent Employment Opportunity: COMPUTER NETWORK ENGINEER III INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: The salary range for the Computer Network Engineer III position is $24.9851 - $38.7601 per hour. The City offers an attractive benefits package which includes:
Retirement: CalPERS offers a defined benefit plan based on a formula of 2% at age 62 for new members and a formula of 2% at age 55 for “classic” members. The City participates in Medicare but not in Social Security.
Vacation Accrual Rates:
Full time employees accrue annual leave at a rate of 4.39-8.08 hours per pay period based on years of service. Sick Leave Accrual Rate: Full time employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 3.70 hours per pay period.
Deferred Compensation: The City offers a number of deferred compensation programs that employees may participate in.
Bilingual Pay: A regular full time employee may receive bilingual pay at the rate of $20.00 bi-weekly to the extent the employee is required to provide bilingual services determined by the City Manage or designee.
Educational Incentive: Employees earn educational incentive pay for educational attainments not required by the classification. The educational incentive pay is as follows: Associates degree - 2.5%, Bachelor’s degree – 3%, Graduate degree – 3.5%
Health and dental: The City contributes $366.26 per pay period toward medical and dental insurance premiums. Unused premium monies are paid to the employee.
Life Insurance: City employees receive Basic Life ($5,000) which is 100% paid by the City. Employees also have the option to purchase additional insurance.
Tuition Reimbursement: Full-time employees are eligible for 100% reimbursement of the costs of tuition, registration fees, laboratory fees, and books to a maximum of $1,000 per fiscal year for work related coursework.
Union Affiliation: This position is represented by the Service Employees International Union, a recognized public employee organization. Employees occupying this classification are required to pay an agency fee.
Holidays: The City observes 11 holidays per year.
