Bachelor of General Studies The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is designed for returning adults. A student needs at least 60 college credits or an associate’s degree from a degree granting regionally accredited college to be considered for admission to the program.
Admission Requirements 1. An associate’s degree or at least 60 college credits from a degree granting regionally accredited college or university. Transfer students with a minimum GPA of 2.7 or a 3.0 in their last 12 credits will meet the criteria for admission. 2. An interview with an academic counselor 3. Official transcripts from all high schools and degree granting regionally accredited colleges and universities previously attended. 4. Earn a minimum of 120 credits towards graduation Fulfill the University of Connecticut General Education Requirements Fulfill the University-wide residency requirement Earn 30 or more credits at the 2000-level or above from either courses taken at the University of Connecticut or courses that transfer at that level into the University of Connecticut. 5. A University of Connecticut grade point average of at least 2.0. 6. Students are expected to complete degree requirements within eight years of admission unless an extension of time to complete the program is given by the Program Director. Writing in the Major. The University’s writing requirement can be met by any 2000-level or above W course within the General Studies major. Information Literacy. Students in the program fulfill this competency area through successful completion of GPS 4278/W, AMST 3265W, or another pre-approved information literacy course.
Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) Requirements Major: General Studies Students in this major select courses from multiple disciplines and academic departments, and work with their academic advisor to establish a coherent plan of study. Students require 30 credits at the 2000-level and above, and may not have more than 21 credits at the 2000-level and above in any one academic department on their final plan of study. Students may also pursue one or more minors as part of their plan of study.
