What do I need to start the course? Skills & Experience  Ability to use appropriate tools  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions  Contribute to discussions on a range of topics  Be able to recognise the letters of the English Alphabet  No previous experience of Calligraphy is required Brief description and topics covered: A practical study of Foundational Hand comprising of:  Miniscule (small letters)  Capitals First stage will be to produce letters with  Double Pencils  Pens At the        

end of the course you will have developed skills in: How to recognise Historic scripts through the ages Producing full alphabets of small and capital letters to the correct size, in pen Measurement and shapes of letters; e.g. circle, oval, rectangle, triangle Angles and ratios of pen nibs to letter height Pen direction and speed of writing Ordering and numbering of pen strokes Creating a finished piece of work ready for framing Completing a portfolio of work
