Supplementary Regulations for Crystal Palace Sprint 27th & 28th Aug 2017
Sevenoaks & District Motor Club The Club has been going strong since the mid 1950s and over the years has been involved in most aspects of club motorsport. These days Sprints, Trials, Autotests and Autosolos, Scatter and 12-Car Rallies are our mainstay events – in fact very much as would have been seen throughout the 1960s. This isn’t as a result of standing still, but more a case of providing the varied motorsport that our members ask for, rather than evolving into one specific type of event provider. What this means is that we have access to a very varied wealth of experience amongst our members and we pride ourselves in remaining above all a friendly club whilst still putting on quality events. For very many years our Valence Hill climb near Westerham was the place to come for families with a picnic and watch the cars race up the hill against the clock and now we are delighted to continue that tradition in the wonderful grounds of Crystal Palace. Over the years some very famous names have come and gone, but our Vice President, ex-works rally driver, ex-Formula 1 and Le Mans 24 Hours racer, Vic Elford has remained faithful and still keeps a watchful eye on our activities. Despite the name, our members are not restricted to the South East – we welcome members from all over the world and they can keep in touch electronically through our website www.sevenoaksmotorclub.com. Everyone is welcome and you certainly don’t need deep pockets to start in motorsport – a £400 MX-5 is more than capable of winning most events outright. Sevenoaks members are also invited to many other club motorsport events throughout the country. The Club also publishes a monthly magazine called ‘The Acorn’, which contains regular competition updates, news from the social scene, articles submitted by members, and members’ adverts. The Club members’ social events are mostly held at The Bell PH, Kemsing, Kent TN15 6NB on the third Wednesday of every month, but there are numerous other social activities too. Annual Membership starts at just £20. If you are interested in joining, then you can do so via the website or you can contact the Membership Secretary Andy Elcomb on 01622 884856 or
[email protected]
Live Promotions Live Promotions, the organisers of Race Retro, Sywell Classic, and Pistons & Props, will drive the Show area at London’s Motorsport at the Palace event, Live will work with the club to grow the event both on and off the circuit using its valuable knowledge of outdoor events. Tom Siddall, Event Director at Live Promotions, said: “This is a fantastic event held at an amazing venue, steeped in motoring history. Working with Sevenoaks and District Motor Club, we will look to expand the motorsport offering, attracting more high profile and diverse cars as well as encouraging other clubs – with both modern and classic marques to make this a true celebration of all this motoring.” With around 35 clubs displaying their cars at the 2015 event Live Promotions is looking to expand this by offering clubs a five-car display space as well as growing the trader village. There will also be new attractions such as live music and a fun fair, promoting a family friendly atmosphere for all to enjoy!
Supporting Charity Last year’s event saw over 5,000 people pass through the gates to enjoy two wonderful days of motorsport, allowing us to donate over £3,500 to St Christopher’s Hospice. That means that since the event began in 2010, we’ve raised over £17,000 for local charities!
St Christopher’s Hospice We are thrilled to be supported once again by Motorsport at the Palace and are very grateful for the continued support of all who attend this fantastic community event. All donations received from Motorsport at the Palace go directly towards supporting our specialist patient and family care services which are provided free of charge. This year we would like to put your donations towards the purchase of a new 16-seater patient ambulance to meet the needs of a growing number of day patients wishing to visit our Anniversary Centre at the hospice. Many people attend one day a week for outpatient appointments as well as to meet friends and take part in therapeutic or social activities run by the hospice team. The Anniversary Centre provides a range of medical, nursing, social and support services for people coping with life-limiting illnesses and their carers. Support from Motorsport at the Palace will go towards the purchase of a new vehicle supporting the needs of those with severe mobility issues at end of life.
