Creating a Podcast in Garageband / Posting on Google Sites File Cabinet Page In this tutorial, Garageband will be used to create and export a podcast. The podcast will be published on a Google Sites file cabinet page.

Create New Podcast Project

Open Garageband. (Look on Dock for guitar icon or in Applications folder for the program.) Click New Project.

Choose Project Type

Select the Podcast icon. Click Choose.

Save Project

When the Save As dialog appears, type a name for the project. Browse to the location where you want to save it. Click Create. [WAIT for Garageband to complete process.]

Use Internal Computer Microphone to Record Voice

Select Voice Track. (Male or Female).

Click the Record button (the red circle) in the control bar to start recording.

Talk or Sing to Record Your Podcast Content

The new region appears in the timeline as you record.

Click the Play Button to Stop Recording

Add Jingles (background music tracks), Stingers (sound transitions), and Sound Effects (people, animals,etc.)

Add a Sound Effect

Click the Podcast Sounds View button (the rightmost button) in the upper-left part of the loop browser. Select the category of sounds you want to use from the column on the left. In this example, Sound Effects has been selected. Select a subcategory (Ex. Transportation) from the column on the right. [Matching loops appear in the results list below.] Click a loop (Ex. Police Car Siren Passing) in the results list to preview it. [Note the icon changes to the sound icon. You will hear the sound effect.] Drag a loop to the timeline to add it to your project.

Exporting Podcast to Desktop

Choose Track > Show Podcast Track if the podcast track is not already visible. (In our example, the podcast track is already visible.) Choose Share > “Export Podcast to Disk.”

Choose a compression format from the Compress Using pop-up menu. Choose MP3. [Enhanced podcasts must be compressed as AAC files.] Choose an audio quality setting from the Audio Settings pop-up menu. Choose Spoken Podcast. [When you choose a setting, a brief explanation of the setting appears below the Audio Settings menu.] Click Export.

Export to Disk Information

In the “Export to Disk” dialog, type a name for the podcast. [Be sure file name .mp3 isn't removed.] Browse to the location where you want to save it.

Click Save.

NOTE: Your project file is already saved in the folder. (sage_tutorial.band) This is NOT the file you will post on a Google Sites file cabinet page.

Publishing Your Podcast on a Google Sites File Cabinet Page

On your podcast file cabinet page, click Add file.

Browse to Podcast mp3 File

Select podcast (mp3). Click Open.

Copying Link Address from Download Link

Control-Click or right-click on Download to reveal options.

Select Copy Link Address from Options Window

Paste Link in TextEdit Page to Edit

Delete all of the link text after mp3. In this highlighted example, this is what is going to be deleted: ?attredirects=0&d=1

Customized URL

Click pencil icon to edit page.

Insert Dylancast Gadget

Finding Dylancast Podcast Gadget

Click Pubic. Insert Dylancast in search window. Click search icon. [The Dylancast Podcast Gadget will appear in your search results.] Click on gadget to reveal gadget information.

Add Gadget to Your Page

Paste the edited mp3 url in box. Change Width to 200 pixels. Change height to 70 pixels. Change Display title on gadget name to what you want to appear on the podcast page. [Example: SAGE Podcast Poem] Click OK.
