Dear Colleagues, The College of Social Sciences and Languages (CSSL), the Institute of Paleoenvironment and Heritage conservation (IPHC) as well as the School of Architecture and Urban Planning (SAUP) of Mekelle University, have the great pleasure announcing the 10th International Conference of History of Art and Architecture in Ethiopia to be held in Mekelle, Tigray Ethiopia

From 30 November up to 4 December 2015

‘Creative Ethiopia, An organizing committee from Mekelle University has been formed with scholars active in the field of arts, art history and architecture. The committee has been collaborating with established Institutes of African Studies (Vienna and London), the Goethe-Institute Addis Ababa and with Universities in Ethiopia as well as abroad, with the aim to organize an International conference on history of Art and Architecture of Ethiopia. The 10th conference aims to become a turning point in the series of ten conferences. Young scholars from Ethiopia will have the chance to share their ideas on platforms. The program will be offering lectures as well as a host of other, activities, exhibitions, workshops and excursions. The results of presentations will be

on Arti and Architecture’ published in a publication and there will be place for new initiatives. Although the conference will focus on history or Art and Architecture we know that the history means taking this knowledge forward and use it in a right way for the future!. As Art is a creating expression of humankind this must be the main issue of the conference ‘Creative Ethiopia’. As the theme of the conference is ‘Creative Ethiopia’ we would like to discuss our sessions of presentations, workshops and excursions. It is hoped that these will inspire many people to use the Ethiopian Art history or Ethiopia as their creative inspiration for the future. Art and Architecture is an important source and concerns for developments in Tourism, Economics and Social perspectives. It is hoped that an in-depth study of the history of art and architecture may challenge scholars

to build bridges between the historical facts, research methods and new approaches to inspire the next generation of Ethiopian scholars. Research must not stay the prerogative of the few, but must be translated into practical approaches towards new developments that can affect the whole society. The theme of your paper needs to fit in the given themes of the conference that can be found on the website of the conference (10ICHAAE).

Call for papers The organizers would like to encourage scholars and students conducting a research in the History of Art and Architecture of Ethiopia to submit abstracts for topics using the website or sending a mail to the organizing committee. All abstracts have to be based on original researches.

Follow the format specified in website Length of abstract: up to 1700 characters The title of the paper should concisely describe the topic concisely All fields must be filled in Affiliation should contain a name of the institution and preferably also your academic status/position.

Submitted abstracts will be scrutinized by the committee and notification of acceptance or rejection will be given before May 15 2015. The committee reserves the right to suggest minor changes to the paper, in accordance with the expectations set by the organizers, in order to assure that it fits in with the themes of the conference. All papers should be based on original research or present new viewpoints in academic discussions.
