CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

MIAMIDEAS CREATIVITY FELLOWS PROGRAM As part of the year of Creativity and Innovation, the MiamIdeas Steering Committee seeks proposals to bring one or more Creativity Fellows to campus during the 2016-17 academic year. One successful proposal will be awarded up to $20,000 to support a residency or visits in which the Creativity Fellow or Fellows will engage with Miami University faculty, students, staff, or administrators. The goal of the program is to stimulate creative approaches to curriculum, research, intellectual community, or other aspects of university life. While the Fellow would be hosted by a core group, it is anticipated that the larger university community would also benefit from engagement with the Fellow. The Steering Committee is open to a wide range of possible programs, ranging from a period of residency by a single fellow or a team to multiple visits and activities by multiple fellows. The MiamIdeas subcommittee on Creativity Fellows (co-chairs Timothy Melley and Richard Taylor) will evaluate proposals based on the following criteria: clear, feasible plan; potential for broad impact beyond a particular department or area of the university; and evidence that the program will be of interest to Miami University faculty, staff, students, or administrators. Applications should describe any new initiatives that might be promoted and should highlight existing programs that could be directly affected by the Fellow. Efforts to secure partner funds from departments or other units is encouraged but not required. Funds may be used flexibly for honoraria, living and travel expenses, on-campus activities, and/or administrative support. Proposers should contact prospective fellows to ensure their willingness to participate should the proposal be approved. We suggest negotiating compensation and other general terms in advance with prospective fellows and clearly explaining to them that such negotiations are not yet an invitation but only groundwork for a proposal that will go through a competitive selection process. Applications should include: • a brief biography of the proposed fellow or fellows • a description and timetable of proposed activities • an explanation of how the proposal will meet the goals of the fellowship program and benefit the Miami University community • a budget, including compensation negotiated with the prospective fellow or fellows • a description of the departments and individuals who will take responsibility for: o coordinating the fellow(s) appointment with Academic Affairs o planning and oversight of on-campus activities and events o planning of travel, housing, and hosting for the visitor(s) o hosting, escorting, and introducing the fellow(s) o reimbursements and financial transactions • written approval from the relevant department chairs or program directors and deans Successful applicants are responsible for arranging and implementing all aspects of the program as described in the proposal. Applications are due Friday, April 15, 2015 to [email protected] . The committee hopes to announce awards by April 22.
