Descriptor Code: DDDA Professional Growth Leave for Teachers
Professional growth leave is covered by the negotiated agreement. This policy addresses awarding of this leave for employees covered by the negotiated agreement. Building administrators are authorized to approve professional leave with pay only for the purpose of in-service conferences, workshops, and other valid staff development activities, and for coaches and advisors who are under contract to supervise student activities. Building administrators may only authorize professional leave for the employees assigned to the school(s) under their direct supervision and must do so subject to availability of budgets. Professional leave with pay may not be granted for the same time period during which the employee is involved in any activity for which payment is made. Requests for professional leave for any purpose other than those listed above are to be approved at the discretion of the Superintendent.
