The Brainstormer’s will be visiting Alpine Elementary once again on December 5 to perform their Writing Take-Off show. This show teaches students about the components of a personal narrative and a creative story. They will return in May to perform student written stories as part of our Young Author’s day. Alpine Elementary was fortunate to receive an Arts and Humanities touring grant from the Michigan Humanities Council once again to offset the cost of their performances in the amount of $592.00. For more information, please visit (http://www.michiganhumanities.org/touringgrants/).
Parking Lot Safety As we enter the colder months of the school and the busy holiday season, I would like to remind parents of the need to keep our parking lot and pick up/drop off loop safe. Please be mindful of your speed when entering and traveling within school grounds. Take extra care when passing cars on our pick up/drop off loop to ensure that you can see all those crossing the parking lane. It is also important for parents who park their cars to cross the parking lane to meet their child in front of the school building. This will ensure that each child has an escort when they cross the parking lane.
Penny Wars Our Alpine Leadership Club has led a penny war for all grades in hopes to raise at least $400 for Toys for Tots. \r! It has been a great way for all students to get into the holiday spirit and show caring. Check back next week to find out which grade was the winner! High School Authors Visit Alpine The high school students in Mrs. Perry's and Mrs. Andrusiak’s Creative Writing class began their own challenge of writing for impressionable readers. After three weeks of diligently revising plot lines, incorporating onomatopoeia, and inventing entertaining characters, the high school authors ventured out to share their stories with Alpine Elementary's first and second grade classrooms. It made the project meaningful for the students at the high school and gave insight to the students at Alpine. Writing does not come easily! It is something that requires commitment and a willingness to re-write. Both younger and older students alike enjoyed a morning of round circle reading and responding. This kind of authentic experience and coming together to grow both school populations is meaning because it engages everyone in a real world experience; one in which we hope to positively impact each other. We hope to repeat the project again every year.
