December 2016 Hello Sunbeam Parents! December is quickly approaching us and the weather is changing! We will be following the Seymour Community Schools schedule during this winter season! If Seymour schools are on a 2 hour delay or cancelled due to winter weather, Borchers Preschool will be cancelled. Also we ask that you dress your child in winter gear as we will go outside as long as the temperature is above 32 and not wet or windy. We have been working on the letters A-L and the number 1-7. We encourage you to continue to practice these numbers and letters at home as well as our review at school. The 4/5 Sunbeam class will be working on the letters M, N and reviewing the letters A-L. We will also be learning the numbers 8 and 9 as well as reviewing previous numbers. The sunbeams should be able to write their first name legibly and after Christmas we will begin learning how to write our last name as well. We encourage you to have your child practice writing his/her name frequently. We have also been working on reading color words by looking at the first letter and matching words by the letters in them. We will also continue introducing sight words: I, can, see, like, the. After Christmas we will begin putting letters together to sound out small words such as dad, sad, mad, etc. We are also sending home the last week in December a sheet protector with our practice letters we have been working on so far this year. I encourage you to get a dry erase marker and have your child practice writing the letters we have done so far this year over their break to keep them up to date on their letter practice. Kindergarten registration will fall in April and we want them to be ready prior to then. Teachers will be evaluating students on their classroom progress before Christmas Break and will be contacting parents as needed to discuss your child’s performance. We are excited to share that we are having a special presentation of How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Monday, December 12 at 10:00am. We invite parents to join us! With Christmas approaching, we will be doing a gift exchange in our class. Gifts should cost no more than $5.00. Girls will buy gifts for girls, boys will buy gifts for boys. We ask that you send the gift wrapped and with a tag saying “To: Boy or Girl, From: your child’s name.” We will have our Christmas party for ALL classes on Wednesday, December 14 during the regular class hours. Parents are invited to stay for the party! We will be playing games, singing Christmas carols, and have a “special” visitor, aka Santa! This will be our last day of school before Christmas Break. We will return to school on Friday, January 6, 2015. We would like to take this time and wish you all a very, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May God bless each of your families as you have blessed us! Borchers Preschool Staff
