VI Semester B.E. (Civil) Degree Examination, December 2014/January 2015 (Y2 K11 Scheme ) CE 605 : DESIGN AND DRAWING OF STEEL STRUCTURES Time : 4 Hours
Max. Marks : 100
Instructions : 1) Answer any one question from each Part – A and Part – B. 2) Use of IS-800-2007 and steel tables are permitted. 3) Any missing data suitably assumed. PART – A 1. An ISMB 450 beam transfers an end reaction of 220 kN to the web of a column ISHB 300 @ 577 N/M. Using M 24 bolts design the stiffened seated connection and draw to a suitable scale the front elevation; plan and side elevation of the connection. 30 2. Design a built UP column consisting of two channels places toe to toe. The column carries an axial factors load of 1600 kN. The effective height of the column is 10 m. Design the lacing and the lacing details. Draw to a suitable scale the elevation of column showing details of lacing.

PART – B 3. Design a gusseted base to carry an axial factord load of 3500 kN. The column is ISHB 450 @ 855 N/M with two 250 × 22 mm cover plates one on either side. The column is to rest on M-20 concrete pedestal. 35 Draw to a suitable scale. i) Front elevation.
