The Georgia-China Free Trade Agreement has been put in the list of China’s main economic events of 2016 and has been ranked 8th among the top ten events. As Georgia’s Foreign Ministry reports, the relevant survey was conducted in December, 2016. As reported, the China-U.S. Commerce and Trade United Commission has been ranked the 1st as a result of the inquiry. The survey is held annually in order to reveal the top ten economic events in China. The joint statement on holding negotiations over the Free Trade Agreement between People’s Republic of China and Georgia was signed on March 9, 2015, when Minister of Economy Giorgi Kvirikashvili was holding a visit to China… The memorandum on completion of the negotiations was signed on October 5, 2016 in Tbilisi, - the Ministry reports. According to the Ministry, Georgia is the first country in the region that has signed the free trade agreement with China. Once it takes effect, the world’s largest market will open for Georgian product.

As Giorgi Tabidze , Director General of the industrial zone operator “Georgia Technology Park” says, next year the Turkish and Azerbaijani companies will start operating in the zone and producing products for export. He notes that the abovementioned Turkish and Azerbaijani companies are involved in the pharmaceutical and logistics business. In Tabidze’s words, a contract with the companies will be signed on January 9, 2017 and in the beginning of February, the preparatory work will begin on the area of 14 hectares. Recall that in November 2015 Georgia’s third-largest free industrial zone opened for operation at a 17 hectare non-agricultural land plot located in the Gldani district of Tbilisi, Georgia.
