A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Greetings Discovery Parents, Fans, and Guests, It is my distinct privilege to welcome you to Discovery Basketball 2017-18! Our athletes have put in lots of hard work in preparation for what promises to be a very exciting season. We are extremely proud of our athletic programs which provide an opportunity for students to develop skills in leadership, sportsmanship, discipline and teamwork. Excellence is our expectation on and off the court and our students are ready to show their Panther Pride. Please know that I am grateful for the positive support that you show our athletes by attending the games and encouraging their efforts. Your presence is priceless. Additionally, yet most importantly, I thank you for accepting the challenge and demonstrating good spectator sportsmanship. The foundation of our basketball program is to develop our players' total growth as a person and basketball player. We will use teaching and coaching as our vehicle to develop our players' total growth.

There are four key ingredients to build our

program's foundation (our pillars of success): Character, Commitment, Discipline, and Execution. First, we will teach the importance of character and integrity in everything we are involved in. Second, we will instill a strong work ethic and sense of commitment in each young man that comes through our program. Third, each young man will learn about the importance of discipline through consistent hard work and dedication. Finally, every young man will learn the importance of putting everything together through execution and teamwork.

Our players will be leaders in their

community by being respectful, being disciplined, having a strong work ethic, being unselfish, and being fully committed. By establishing these values in our players, it will build the groundwork for their success as people and as basketball players.

2017-2018 COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH

JASON WRIGHT

Jason Wright is entering his 4th season as the Head Boys Basketball Coach and 19th season overall in coaching. Coach Wright helped guide the 7th grade team in 14-15 and the 8th grade team in 15-16 to a county championship. The 15-16 team was the 1st basketball team in Discovery history to go undefeated. The 15-16 7th grade team was the county tournament runner-up, also. Prior to Discovery, Wright spent 7 seasons at the collegiate level and 9 seasons at the high school varsity level. Coach Wright is a 16 year member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He is married to Lisa, and they have a 7 year old daughter, Audrey.

ASSISTANT COACH

JAMIE PUTMAN

Jamie Putman is joining the DMS coaching staff for his first season with the Panthers. He brings a wealth of experience to the boys program. Coach Putman has been coaching off and on over a 20 year teaching career. Prior to Discovery, Putman had a seven year tenure as Meridianville Middle school's boys' basketball coach and one season as an assistant with the Hazel Green High School girls' basketball program. Putman's playing career includes experience at both the high school and college level.

JEFF HALEY

Coach Haley is entering his 3rd year as Head Girl’s Basketball Coach at Discovery Middle School. He brings many years of experience in coaching and teaching, mainly in the state of Florida. He is originally from the Huntsville area and graduated from J.O. Johnson High School. He received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of West Alabama and Master's Degree in Special Education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He served as the boys assistant varsity coach at Osceola High and Liberty High school in Kissimmee, Florida. JACQUELINE WILLIS

Coach Willis is entering her 3rd year at Discovery and is originally from Woodbridge, New Jersey. She attended Oakwood University where she received her B.S. in Mathematics Education. Prior to Discovery, she worked at Westlawn Middle School in Huntsville City Schools. She is excited about the opportunity to be the head coach for the 7th grade girls basketball team for the 2017-2018 season.
