December, 2017 DOLPHIN PRIDE NEWSLETTER Principal’s Message We would like to start by saying how much we love working with your students every day at Discovery. Lately I have been reading the book The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor. In this book he challenges many beliefs we have about happiness. We often think that when we reach a goal, or when the weekend comes, or at my big vacation I will be happy, but this is not how we can reach happiness. Happiness can be achieved right now. We need to teach our brains to look for the positive things around us. We can do this by intentionally looking for things that we can be grateful for, meditating, or thanking people around us. One thing that has helped me to be happier this school year is our “Shout Outs”. Almost every day this school year I have received a shout out for one of our staff members. Reading those positive messages each day has made me happier, and they aren’t even about me. Thank you for your shout outs for our staff. When I deliver shout outs they always light up, and I have even seen tears in their eyes as they read them. I hope that you take a moment and thank a Discovery Employee for the good that they do every day. If you don’t want to put it in the computer, you can call or stop by the office to tell us what you would like said. Attendance Matters!
