Dear all Lion Leaders,
20th November 2013
Re: Lions Fund Raising Relief for victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Philippines, our close Malaysian neighbour, with which we share a common sea border has recently faced a serious natural calamity. Super Typhoon “Haiyan” is 3.5 times bigger than Hurricane “Katrina” which hit New Orleans, USA and “Haiyan” has affected 9.5 million people, half million are homeless, 3,976 confirmed deaths, 1,598 missing and 18,175 injured, according to the Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and entire towns along the coast have been decimated. It may take years to rebuild the damaged homes and reinstate to their original visage Philippines a developing nation, in a 2009 census, has 41.35 % of its population living under the international standard of poverty of earning less than US$2 a day. Dear Fellow Lions of District 308 B2, let’s pull up our socks, let’s roll up our sleeves and carry out fund raising campaigns to help the citizens of our stricken neighbour. The disaster affected many places not only in Tacloban but also in Ormoc areas which are badly hit… no electricity, no water and no food. The Philippines Lions are using boats to carry the water in their back packs for distribution to the victims. The Philippines Lions and Lions from Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong are already on the ground and the Philippines Lions need financial help to give relief aid to those affected by this tragedy. Our District, under the lineup of District Governor Team and District Executive Officers, has decided to establish a fund to assist the survivor victims of Super Typhoon “Haiyan”. Your fullest support to quickly raise the urgently needed funds or by organising fund raising activities to assist the victims of the Super Typhoon “Haiyan” is greatly appreciated. All cheques are to be made payable to “Lions Clubs International District 308 B2 Malaysia” and all donated sums, are to be converted into daily essentials, food, blankets, pillows and medicine, which will be directly handover by our District’s Leaders together with the LCIF MD 308 Coordinator PID Ellis Suriyati, to the Philippines victims. Past International Director Michael So, will be the Lead Coordinator for the Philippines Lions at ground-zero. The date line for all funds raising activities by our District, for the surviving victims of Super Typhoon “Haiyan” is 15th January 2014. Kindly take immediate action to help the victims. With warmest regards,
Lion Lee Boon Hoe PMJF, DF. Lions Clubs International District 308 B2 District Governor 2013-2014
