New to Medicare?

St. Athanasius Parish Outreach

Are you going on Medicare soon? Are you overwhelmed and confused about the choices and decisions you need to make? You don’t need to go through this alone! Meet with a SHINE (Serving the Health Insurance Needs of Everyone) counselor. Trained SHINE counselors offer free, in-person, confidential counseling on all aspects of Medicare and related insurance programs. To make an appointment, call your local senior center or the Regional SHINE office at Mystic Valley Elder Services in Malden at 781388-4845. You’ll be asked to leave a message and a daytime phone number. A SHINE counselor will return your call within two business days.

We are expanding our outreach efforts so that we may better assist those in our community who may need a helping hand in a variety of ways. We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to assist in the following ways: ♦ ♦ ♦

Drive parishioners to church Prepare meals Visit parishioners who may be unable to attend church ♦ Bake desserts for the Sawtelle Hospice House Please let us know if you can provide any of these important services. If you are already on the Hospice House dessert list, you do not need to volunteer for that effort again since we already have your contact information. Please contact Ellen Terry at [email protected] or 781-944-5431 to volunteer for any of these programs. THANK YOU!

Jewelry Donations Wanted Do you have jewelry (new, old, in-between) you wish to donate? Now is a great time! We are looking for donations now to get a jump start on our annual Christmas Faire held in November. We are also interested in anything to display jewelry on, jewelry cases to sell, and boxes. Feel free to call Joanne Fitzpatrick at 781-942-0983.

Become a Hospice Volunteer “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” -Mahatma Gandhi All Care Hospice is currently seeking caring, compassionate people to offer comfort and support to our patients and families. As part of the care team, volunteers serve a vital role in affecting the quality of our patients’ lives. Each volunteer opportunity is unique and varies depending on the needs of the patient and family as well as the volunteer’s availability and interests. Patient care may include providing companionship through conversation, reading aloud, reminiscing, or even just holding their hand. Other duties help alleviate stress for the caregiver such as running errands like grocery shopping and trips to the pharmacy, light housekeeping or meal preparation. Administrative tasks involve assembling admission packets, assisting with mailings, photocopying, and special event preparation. All Care Hospice serves the North Shore, Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston. For more information or to enroll in a training, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Maureen Burge at 781-244-1129
