Rebecca Owens is a senior this year and went to the FFA National Convention. Nationals was in Indianapolis, Indiana. Becca joined FFA to learn more about agriculture and gain lifelong skills.At the conference, they went to leadership workshops, walked around the expo center, went to sessions, and looked into many colleges and career options through FFA.The other students who went were Tobin Moore, Corben McCallum, Kaitlyn Kent, Lauren Bergner, Jillian Hunter, Tristen Roll, Xander Speicher, Taylor Hendrix, Wyatt McCallum, and Cash Adler. Rebecca was most looking forward to meeting new people from around the country and seeing thousands of FFA jackets flood the streets. Overall, Rebecca had a great time.

On Saturday, Oct 28, there was a robotics competition, hosted by NJC. Mr. French was the sponsor for the Holyoke team. At the competition, the the top four winners, out of twelve teams, go to regionals in Denver. The students who helped build the robot included Jimena Nuñez, Tristen Ferguson, Tyson Owens, Jonathan Quintana, Baylor Struckmeyer, Cooper Goldenstein, Max Kleve, and Diego Jimenez. In the first part of the competition, competitors had to complete a number of tasks in rounds, and each task was worth a different set of points. The top seven teams earned a spot in the finals, but there was a ?wild card? round (determined by a team?s engineering notebook) and the winner also earned a spot in the finals. Holyoke got ninth place overall, but managed to get into the wild-card round and placed second there.

Hallow een By: Alm a Alejan dr e There were about 90 contestants at the Halloween costume contest on Tuesday night in the HJHS gym. The contestants went up, said their names, and stated what they were wearing. There were three judges who chose the 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place winners for each grade. First the one-year-olds through five-year-olds competed, and then they switched to 1st through 6th grade. There were many ties for 1st place and 3rd place.

High School Sports Foot ball By:Er in An der sen Ethan Andersen was the snapper at the varsity game on Friday the 27th when the Dragons beat Wiggins ten to six. Ethan has only played in five varsity games this year, but has improved a lot. Ethan has made too many snaps to count. Ethan feels like he has improved a lot from last year ?s season to this year ?s, and he has loved being on the team. Ethan?s favorite person on the team to play with is Anthony Beltran, but his favorite coach is Sonnemaker. His favorite person to watch is himself, because ?Those snaps too clean.? Ethan?s favorite memory for this season is winning the Wiggins game and just being able to be part of the team. The Holyoke Dragons this year went three and six.

Ch eer By:Er in An der sen Brenna Sullivan is a high school Holyoke Dragon cheerleader. Brenna has been doing cheer for two years now and enjoys it very much. Brenna?s goal for this year ?s cheer team is for them to come together at competition time. Brenna wasn?t going to do cheerleading, but her best friend Savannah Burris urged her to do it, and Brenna is glad she did. Savannah Burris is also Brenna?s favorite person to cheer with. Her favorite cheer is ?Rowdy,? and her favorite stunt is when they throw Tica Penzing up in the air and she spins. Brenna likes cheering for football the best, but she loves cheering in general. She likes both of her coaches equally, and they both inspire her to do great things.

Spor t s M LB By Cade Killin The Houston Astros have beaten the Los Angeles Dodgers and won the World Series! This year ?s World Series was highlighted by home runs, star pitching, and two high-powered teams fighting for a highly anticipated championship. This is Houston?s first World Series title in team history. Game 7 on Wednesday was the first Game 7 in Dodger Stadium history. The Astros won the final game 5-1, after starting off to a hot start and keeping the Dodgers at bay for the rest of the game. This MLB season was headlined by big hitters, with the MLB breaking its record for most home runs in a season.

Probably the biggest story right now is the Bucks?small forward Giannis Antetokounmpo. He has been on an absolute tear lately. As of now he is averaging 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists per game. Right now in the NBA MVP rankings, he is leading the rankings at position #1. The really crazy thing is that at the beginning of the season Kobe Bryant gave players goals for the season on Twitter. Giannis asked Kobe what his challenge was, and Kobe replied with ?MVP,? and as of now he is fulfilling that goal.

NHL By: St eph en M u r r ay The Toronto Maple Leafs played at the home of the San Jose Sharks on Monday, October 30. Tim Heed put the Sharks up to a 2-1 lead with 4:11 left in the third period. Joe Pavelski and Joel Ward were the other two players to score for the Sharks. The final score was 3-2, a win for San Jose. San Jose?s record is now 6-5, and Toronto?s record is 7-5. The Montreal Canadiens played at the home of the Ottawa Senators and there was a blowout for the Senators. The final score was 8-3 Montreal. Montreal has a record of 4 wins, 7 losses, and 1 tied game. Ottawa has a record of 5 wins, 2 losses, and 5 tied games. NFL By Tu f f Sigler Last Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Detroit Lions 20-15. In this game, Big Ben threw for 317 yards and 193 of these beautiful yards were gained by the ultimate rookie, JuJu Smith-Schuster. Also in this game, Le?Veon Bell, the franchise running back, rushed for 76 yards. One of the nastiest injuries ever in NFL history took place on Sunday. Zach Miller broke his tibia in such a gruesome fall that he even has artery damage. Although very few are accurate, many rumors say that he can have surgery to repair his leg, but he will be very likely to never play in the NFL again. Even if he does, he will never play the same as he once did.

Review s Assassin's Cr eed: Or igin s By: Emmanuel (EV) Vasquez Ubisoft develops lots of great video games, including the ?Just Dance? and ?Splinter Cell? series. However, they are most known for their ?Assassin?s Creed? collection. When Ubisoft took two years off to make the new ?Assassin?s Creed? game, people had high expectations. So far, it seems the extra time has paid off. Many fans are enjoying playing the 80-plus hour video game as it seems like a refresher to the series.

?Assassin?s Creed: Origins? takes place in ancient Egypt when the Assassin brotherhood has just started. I played this game on Halloween, and it was great. I highly recommend picking up ?Assassin?s Creed: Origins.? would exist. Water sometimes comes in bottles too, for the fancy people who don?t like tap water. I personally like tap water, but water is water, so why does it matter? I would personally rate water 5 stars, because it is very necessary for everything.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is an amazing game. In the open beta I used four heroes, with Darth Maul and Boba Fett for the dark side. On the light side there are two heroes: Rey and Han Solo. There are three game modes, two ground fights and one air fight where you defeat a star ship. There were also some side heroes including clone troopers, wookies, and super battle droids. I would recommend trying this game.

Highlighters are a great writing utensil. Highlighters are mostly used for important texts. They come in all different colors, and are fun to use. I would recommend highlighters for anyone who needs to remember important information. They can come in all different sizes. Sometimes they are so small you can even put them in your pocket. I would rate highlighters four out of five stars, because they are very useful, but if the cap comes off in your pencil pouch they leak color everywhere.

NHS dodge ball Tournament

Dodgeball Pr eview By Diego Jim en ez On Saturday, Nov 4 at 3:00, there will be an annual dodgeball tournament sponsored by NHS. The dodgeball tournament is a sporting event in which a number of dodgeball teams compete to win. Anyone one 7th grade and up can enter, but you had to fill out a form by Thursday. The dodgeball tournament charges admission for spectators and is not accessible with a pass. The concession stand will also be open during the tournament.

Bell Ch oir Assem bly By: Clover Adler The bell choir assembly, performed by students from Hastings College in Nebraska, took place on Thursday. The bell choir group played a couple of songs and then an a capella group sang a couple of songs. Then the bell choir played a few more songs. One of the songs the bell choir played was Viva Vida by Coldplay, and one of the songs that the a capella group sang was Hallelujah. The performance was really interesting and fun.
