Sixth Form Dress Code High standards of student dress help to reinforce appropriate attitudes to learning, identifying sixth formers as key ambassadors within the school community, and to promote the expectations of the professional work place. The dress code outlines minimum dress expectations. Non- compliance with the guidelines may result in sanctions. Your review tutor, teacher or achievement coordinator’s interpretation of your adherence to the dress code is final. Tops
Tops should be smart and not revealing. NOT permitted: football shirts, band t-shirts, tops with inappropriate products, language or messages, low cut, vests or crop tops, tops through which underwear is visible
Trousers
Trousers should be smart. If jeans are worn they should be smart, fitted, and dark. NOT permitted: jeans that are low rise, stonewashed, faded, ripped or rolled up, leggings, military style ‘combat’ trousers, shorts, tracksuit/sports clothing (with the exception of Sports Studies students when they have practical lessons only). Should the weather be hot, knee length shorts will be permitted.
Skirts and dresses
These should be smart and not revealing. Dark tights should be worn with shorter length skirts and dresses. NOT permitted: excessively short skirts about mid-thigh length, shorter length skirts/dresses worn with bare legs or light coloured tights
Outdoor wear
Coats and non-formal jackets, denim jackets, leather jackets, hooded tops (zipped and unzipped) are considered outdoor wear. NOT permitted: wearing outdoor coats/non-formal jackets in review time, lessons or assemblies, hats, caps or hoods of any kind
Footwear
NOT permitted: flip flops, high stiletto shoes, other footwear considered a health and safety risk or excessively informal
Personal embellishments
Every effort should be made to cover tattoos. NOT permitted: tattoos which contain inappropriate images or language, articles of jewellery which could present a health and safety hazard, extremes of hair styles/colour, multiple facial or indiscreet piercings (a discreet nose stud is permitted but not piercings of eyebrow/lip etc)
Religious and cultural dress
To reflect the multi-faith, multi-cultural society in which we live, the wearing of religious and cultural dress is permitted (including head scarves, skull caps and turbans). The exception to this is where health, safety and welfare will be compromised by the wearing of such dress to the wearer or to other persons.
Personal technology
Mobile phones • these must be turned off during lessons and should not be on display apart from where used as a learning tool approved by the teacher • must not be used in the corridors or any other public areas where they are visible to other students, at any time during the school day • should not be used in the canteen during whole-school breaks and lunch or any time where they are visible to lower school students Failure to adhere to these guidelines: 1st occasion - confiscation of mobile telephone for 24 hours 2nd occasion - confiscation for a period of one week. Parents will be required to collect the phone at the end of the period of confiscation. Refusal to hand over a mobile phone when requested will be treated as a disciplinary matter. Headphones • these must not be visible during lessons or whilst walking around corridors The same sanctions as applicable to mobile phones will apply.
ID badges
ID badges must be worn by ALL students at ALL times. This is a safeguarding requirement and will be enforced without exception. Your ID badge will be checked on entering the school building. It should be visible at all times and worn around the neck with the photo facing forward.
Formal work wear
There will be occasions when you will be required to dress for formal, work situations. On such occasions you will need to wear smart, tailored clothing e.g. ties, jackets, formal footwear.
