Durham School of the Arts Graduation Activities and Etiquette ~Class of 2018~ Monday, June 11, 2018 - Practice BRING THE SHOES YOU WILL BE WEARING ON GRADUATION DAY TO PRACTICE! THIS IS REQUIRED! 1. Graduation Practice at DSA MANDATORY 9:15-11:30am: Practice in Weaver Auditorium - PLEASE BE ON TIME Walk/talk through ceremony. Names will be called so you will have an opportunity to work with the announcer, Mr. Cadilla, on the correct pronunciation of your name. Listen to Junior Marshalls and treat them with respect; they are there to help! 2. Senior Luncheon at DSA on back patio 11:30 am – 1:00 pm (after practice) Eat and enjoy! Maybe a game of kickball? 3. Graduation Practice at Cameron MANDATORY 3:15-5:00pm – PLEASE BE ON TIME Students are responsible for finding own transportation to Cameron. Park in Blue Zone. There is construction, roads are closed, so watch your time and plan. Maps will be provided at practice. Wait outside or in lobby if you arrive before Northern is finished. Walk through ceremony. Distribute graduation tickets (these tickets must be ordered online by May 25)

3:30 pm—Meet in the ballroom off the patio outside Cameron Indoor. You will be shown this location at the afternoon rehearsal on June 11. 4:30 pm—Be in line and checked in with Junior Marshall. You should be in full dress at this time (gown, cap, tassel, dress shoes, tie for men, collar attached for women) 5:00 pm—Graduation ceremony begins
NOTE: ALL GUESTS attending the graduation ceremony at Cameron Indoor Stadium MUST have a ticket and are subject to a search of personal belongings.
If either practice is missed, you will NOT be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. Also, it is important that you are ON TIME to all events and practices—others are depending on you!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION Any senior who wishes to be exempt from graduation exercises must present a letter from his/her parent(s) to Mr. Hawks before Friday, May 18, 2018. Only students who have met all graduation requirements and have paid all fines owed to DSA are eligible to participate in graduation exercise. If fines are not paid, you cannot practice, therefore you cannot participate in the graduation ceremony. Remember, you may incur fines at the end of this school year. You must see Ms. McNeil (main office) by the end of the day Wednesday, June 6, 2018 to make sure you do not have any fines. Students must attend both graduation practices on June 11. Duke University requires that all persons entering DPS graduation ceremonies have a ticket for admission. To ensure that the venue does not become overcrowded, each student will be guaranteed up to 10 tickets initially, upon completion of this form. Families may request additional tickets beyond the guaranteed 10; however, please understand that, depending on the anticipated attendance for graduation, students may not receive any requested additional tickets. Also, please be aware that Duke will use its security staff to check bags upon entrance into Cameron Indoor Stadium. The ticket request form will be accessible starting Monday, May 14th. Graduates must request tickets using the online form by May 25th, 2018. This form can be accessed from the DSA website or at http://tinyurl.com/DSAGradTickets2018 Tickets requested online by the deadline will be distributed to graduates at the afternoon rehearsal on June 11. [email protected] with any questions or concerns. Diplomas will not be inside the cover when you receive it on stage. Students may report to the school on Friday, June 15 to pick up their diplomas in the Main Office. Graduates will not receive diplomas unless they have paid all fees owed. Ask visitors and guests to meet you outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium after graduation. You may want to set a meeting place beforehand, as it will be very crowded. Handicapped Parking & Seating: Parking passes for handicapped students and/or guests will be distributed during the morning rehearsal on June 11. Students will indicate the need for handicap parking (limit 1 pass per student) and handicap seating when you request tickets. Handicapped seating will be provided on the gym floor behind the graduates. Two non-disabled guests may sit with each handicapped guest in this area. ALL GUESTS must still have an admission ticket obtained through the regular ticket process. Student Parking: Students will need to park in the Blue Zone Only for practice and Graduation unless they need handicapped parking. WATCH YOUR TIME!! Roads around Cameron Indoor Stadium are closed. Arriving early will help prevent parking problems for you. Car-pooling is strongly encouraged. Please remember, you are not only representing your school and your class; you are also representing your family! Be respectful and act appropriately.
GRADUATE ATTIRE You will not be permitted to walk in the graduation ceremony if you come to Cameron on June 13 without adhering to the attire requirements below. Hang your gown on a hanger when you receive it. Press gowns with a cool iron. Gowns will melt if you use high heat! Caps should be worn straight on head, tassel on the right; no decorations on caps. Ladies: o Dress or skirt, dress pants and blouse. No shorts, jeans, leggings, or athletic pants. o Flat shoes or with a sensible heel (lots of walking); neutral color. Bring your shoes to practice! No flip flops or shoes without a back. o Collar: You are not wearing this collar. Don’t put it on your gown. o Make arrangements for your purse/handbag; you may NOT keep them during ceremony, and we will not be responsible for them. Gentlemen: o Dress shirt (white or light blue) and dress pants. No jeans, shorts, or athletic pants. o Tie (bow ties are permitted) o Dark dress shoes (no athletic shoes, sandals or boots) with dark socks
Graduation Tickets: DSA Class of 2018 (All this information will be on the DSA website as well, with links) dsa.dpsnc.net Everyone attending DSA graduation at Cameron Indoor Stadium must have a ticket to enter. Tickets are free of charge, but they must be ordered online using the procedure outlined below. This is the only process available for ordering tickets. No one will be admitted to graduation without a ticket. Each senior is allowed 10 tickets and each ticket MUST be associated with a specific person. We are allowing for students to request more than 10, but you are only guaranteed 10 tickets if they are ordered by the deadline using the online process. The following is the procedure for ordering graduation tickets. You must complete this process by Friday, May 25th deadline so family and friends can attend graduation at Cameron Indoor Stadium. 1. Go to the following website: http://tinyurl.com/DSAGradTickets2018 (or link from the DSA webpage dsa.dpsnc.net) 2. Fill out the entire online form. You must provide names of guests on the 2nd page of the form. 3. This website will be open from Monday, May 14 through Friday, May 25. Graduation tickets must be requested online within this time frame. Tickets requested online by the deadline will be distributed to graduates the afternoon graduation rehearsal on June 11. 4. The DSA Media Center computers are available for student use before school, during lunch periods and after school on most days.
