3. Collection Development:

The PES LMC collection development goal is to ensure that the collection is accurate, current, and developmentally appropriate for the recreational and academic needs of the school. A Collection Analysis Report from Follett Titlewise report completed in June of 2017 has our average age as 2001. This is a 3 year improvement from the 1998 average for 2015-2016 school year. The SC standards, the TitleWise collection analysis and request for materials list will be used to analyze the collection for weaknesses. Weeding materials and replacing them with current resources will be a high priority for the 2017-2018 school year.  The collection will be analyzed by semester.  A complete inventory will be completed in June 2018. This inventory will be compared to the previous inventory to show growth.

 The budget will be used to purchase up-to-date materials that align with curriculum standards.  Maintain a current catalogue that reflects LMC resources.  Analyze and weed sections.  Plan with instructional technology to make informed decisions regarding all technology purchases.  The MS will use documentation such as the South Carolina Standards for School Library Core Resource Collections (available online at http://scschoollibraries.pbworks.com), current collection development studies, curriculum needs, student scores, staff and students’ requests, new textbook adoptions, etc as the basis for determining the resources needed in order to ensure that the media center is able to support the instructional needs of the school. Additional Information and ideas on Collection Development can be found on the State Department’s School Library Media Services webpage:  The MS will work with the Administration in exploring the possibility of creating a LMC Advisory Committee.

4. Library Media Center Budget:

The MS will be meeting with the bookkeeper regularly to place orders and ensure correct accounting for library funds. 5. Assessment of the Library Media Program:

The Administration and MS will assess the LMC program and services in meeting the instructional needs of the school.  Data will be gathered from circulation statistics, number of class visits, meetings attended, and teacher collaborations.  Development of a sign in system for individual students who come to the library will be suggested.  A collection analysis using Follet’s Titlewise will be evaluated every semester to assess the current age of our collection.  The collection will be evaluated and compared to the SC Achieving Exemplary Libraries Program Standards will be used to evaluate the collection.

 The MS would like to continue to finding ways to update a tween area in our LMC to make older students feel more welcome in the LMC.  The MS would also like to find ways to continue to update the library décor by updating furniture, providing frames for reading posters, adding technology that can be used in the library. 6. Media Center Management:

The LMC program will effectively manage systems and services that ensure smooth operation, effective information access and retrieval and an inviting atmosphere conducive to teaching and learning.  The media center will be attractive, inviting, and accessible. Goals: Acquire posters and frames that can be changed out regularly, maintain shelf labels to identify sections.  Use a Google Technology Request form of technical issues dealt with throughout the year.  Provide PD for media center policies, procedures, reading programs, research links, etc.  Maintain the Destiny Catalogue.  Maintain current budget records.  Maintain a current LMC website.  Gather information regarding the LMC program effectiveness through surveys.
