2 Set-Up and Safety Please observe the following points.

Electrical devices are not for children Never allow children to use electrical devices unsupervised. Batteries / rechargeable batteries can be extremely dangerous if swallowed. Therefore keep the device and batteries out of reach of small children. If a battery is swallowed, seek medical help immediately.

Proper Recycling Batteries and packaging material should not be disposed of in domestic waste. Batteries must be handed in to a used-battery collection point. Separated disposal of packaging material cares for the environment.

Moisture and Cleaning This product is not waterproof! Do not immerse the unit in water or let it come in contact with water. If water penetrates the unit, it can cause serious damage. 9 Battery Installation Push downward on the lid and then slide backward to remove the battery compartment cover.

Insert two “AAA” size batteries according to the “+” and “-“ markings.

Replace the lid by sliding the lid forward until you hear or feel a click. NOTE: o DO NOT mix different types of batteries together or old batteries with new batteries. o

If the remote controller will not be used for an extended period of time, remove the batteries to prevent possible corrosion.

o

To prevent corrosion resulting in damage, remove exhausted batteries immediately.

o

Where the remote controller doesn’t appear to operate normally, replace both of the batteries.

o

Typical life for the batteries provided with this product is about 6 months. The life expectance may vary according to the use status.

10 Use of the Remote Controller Point the remote controller toward the remote sensor on your DVD recorder. Upon receipt of the signal from the remote controller, the equipment will operate accordingly.

Do not place this equipment in a place exposed to direct sunlight or strong light source like inverting fluorescent light, or else it may interfere with correct operation of the remote controller.

o

When another similar remote controller is used in the same room, or when this product is used near other equipment using infrared ray, interference with the operation of this remote controller may occur.

o

Do not place any object on the remote controller or else it may cause unintentional depression of the buttons and waste the batteries unnecessarily.

o

Do not colour in or cover the front of the remote controller, or else it may cause interference with normal operation of the remote controller.

o

Any barrier between the remote controller and remote sensor will inactivate any operation of the remote controller.

o

The operating range between the remote controller and the equipment shall be no more than 5 meters (15 feet). When the operating range becomes shorter, replace the batteries with new ones.

11 System Connection 11.1 Connection for Video Output Turn off the power and unplug all equipment before setting up any connections. The Component Video output allows you to enjoy the best picture quality from a DVD video disc. Connect your recorder with Y Video, Pr Video and Pb Video, if your TV has Progressive Scan or Component Video Input. During stop status, press I/P button on remote control unit to switch between Progressive Scan or Interlace Scan, or switch these two modes in General Setup. Not applicable for MPEG4 discs.

11.2 Connection for 5.1CH Audio Output Enjoy Dolby AC-3 Surround Sound by connecting an external amplifier and speaker system with 6 channel analog audio output (right and left front speakers, right and left rear speakers, centre front speaker and Bass speaker) from the rear panel of the DVD Video Recorder. Connect as shown below.

12 Connection for Digital Audio Output Enjoy the dynamic sound of Digital Sound Surround by connecting an external amplifier equipped with a digital audio input and speaker system. You can select the digital output stream in the SETUP MENU When in RAW mode, DOLBY bit stream is outputted in LPCM mode, two channel LPCM digital audio signal is outputted on COAXIAL or OPTICAL.

12.2 Connection for AV Signal (A/V REAR INPUT) Connect your DVD recorder with the S-Video cable if the Signal Source has an S-Video output Do not connect the yellow Video cable if using the S-Video cable. If no S-Video connection is available, connect the Red, White and Yellow RCA cables as shown.

13 Basic Operation 13.1 DVD+/-RW or DVD+/-R Disc Playback •

Press the OPEN/CLOSE button. This will open the disc tray and allow for the placement of a pre-recorded playable disc with the playback side down.



Insert a pre-recorded DVD+/-RW or DVD+/-R disc.



The index pictures will appear on the screen as shown below.



The UP/DOWN arrow in the title picture means “previous” or “next” page in the DVD title details. This depends on how many titles have been recorded. (The first page of the title includes some DISC recording information.)

Press ENTER or PLAY to start playback of the title you selected.

Description: The name of the pre-recorded. The default is TITLE. The date of the record. The time of the record. . The record quality Length of the record.

Note: When the top picture is highlighted, press UP ARROW. The previous index pictures will display on the screen. When it reaches the first picture at the top, if you press UP ARROW again, the Index Picture Screen will disappear and the information screen for that title will be displayed. When the bottom picture is highlighted, press DOWN ARROW. The next index pictures will display on the screen. This depends on how many titles have been recorded.

Stop Playback •

Press the STOP button to Pre-stop the player, Press the PLAY button again to resume playing from where you finished.



Press the STOP button to Pre-stop the player, Press the STOP button again to fully stop. Press the PLAY button again, the disc will start to play from the very beginning. Note: After finishing playback of all titles contained on a DVD-/+RW or DVD-/+R disc, it will return to the Index Picture Screen.

General Features – DVD Playback All DVD playback operations can be performed by the navigation function. During playback, press NAVIGAT. The time information is displayed. Press NAVIGAT again and the control bar will display as shown.

The Control bar is a collection of icons. These icons represent commands or information that is needed to complete a function.

For the details of each function, refer to the following table To Use, follow these steps •

Press UP/DOWN to highlight one icon Note: If a yellow arrow appears to the right, press RIGHT to enter the sub menu.



Press UP/DOWN to select an item, press ENTER.



Press LEFT to return to the left icon.



Press NAVIGAT again to cancel the control bar.



Press the NAVIGAT a third time and the on-screen-display will disappear.

Description Select to play back at normal speed Repeats a segment between two selected point. To operate, Select A-B Repeat Press Enter at the point where you want the playback to begin. “A” will display.

A-B Repeat

Press Enter again at the point where you want to stop playback. “A-B Repeat” will display. The segment will now continue to play and loop between the selected positions. Select “Normal” and Enter to resume normal play. Select any of the options as follows:

Trick Mode

Play, Stop, Pause, FF2, FF4, FF16, FF32, FB2, FB4, FB16, FB32, Slow Forward 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, Slow Backward 1/2, 1/4, 1/8.

14.2 Skip Forward / Skip Backward Use this function to move to the next or previous chapter for DVD, track for VCD and Audio CD. •

Press button, or, rotate the knob on the front panel anticlockwise, during play mode. The DVD Recorder starts playing the previous chapter or track.



Press button, or, rotate the knob on the front panel clockwise, during play mode. The DVD Recorder starts playing the next chapter or track.

14.3 Zoom Screen Enlarges DVD/VCD screen image up to 2 times. •

Press ZOOM button during playback.



The picture is zoomed.



Each time you press ZOOM button, the zoom mode will be changed. i.e. 150%

- 200% - Zoom Off (100%)



You can move the image by using the◄,

▼, ► or ▲ Button.



To cancel the zoom mode, press ZOOM button repeatedly until the player resumes back to the normal screen size.

14.4 Repeating a Title, Chapter Use this button to repeat the chapter / title for DVD or track / disc for VCD and Audio CD. •

Press REPEAT button during playback.



The repeat information is displayed on the top of screen.



Each time you press REPEAT button, the repeat mode is changed as follows.

Note: With some DVD discs, there may be times when repeat playback is not possible.

14.5 Selecting Audio Languages It is possible to change the audio language to a different language from the one selected at the initial setup. This operation works only with discs on which multiple audio languages are recorded. If the loaded disc supports multiple audio languages, you can select the audio language. •

Press AUDIO button during playback.



The audio information is displayed on the top of screen.



Each time you press AUDIO button, the audio language is changed.

Note: Language function is disc dependent. In this case, the language should be selected via the disc menu.

14.6 Switching the Camera Angle When a DVD contains recorded multiple angles of a scene, you can select the Angle function. •

Press ANGLE button during playing.



If available, angles of the current scene will be displayed on the top of screen and the angle is changed.



Each time you press ANGLE button, the angle is changed.

Note: You can only change the angle for DVDs that provide multiple angles of scenes. The angle function will not work on DVD video discs that do not contain recorded multiple angles. The number of angles varies from disc to disc.

14.7 Direct Search You can select a specific chapter or title to play. Also you can move to a specific time in a track or title. •

Press GOTO button during playback.



The playback information appears on TV screen.



Each time you press GOTO button, the search mode is changed as follows.

14.8 Title Search •

Select TITLE by pressing GOTO button.



Enter the TITLE number by using the numeric 0 to 9 buttons.



Press ENTER button to confirm. It will start to play back from the specified title.

Select CHAPTER by pressing GOTO button.



Enter the CHAPTER number by using the numeric 0 to 9 buttons.



Press ENTER button to confirm. It will start to play back from the specified chapter.

Time Search •

Select TIME by pressing GOTO button.



Enter the TIME by using the numeric 0 to 9 buttons.



For example, if you want to go to 0:31:25, (31 minutes and 25 seconds), press the numeric buttons in this order (0, 3, 1, 2, 5).



Press ENTER button to confirm. It will start to play back from the specified time.

It is possible to change the subtitle language to a different language from the one selected at the initial settings. This operation works only with discs on which multiple subtitle languages are recorded. If the loaded disc supports multiple subtitles, you can select the subtitle language. •

Press SUBTITLE button during playing.

15 Setting the Parental Lock DVD’s equipped with the parental lock function are rated according to their content. The contents allowed by a parental lock level and the way a DVD can be controlled may vary from disc to disc. For example, if the disc allows it, you could edit out violent scenes unsuitable for children and replace them with more suitable scenes, or lock out playback of the disc all together. •

Press SETUP Button during stop status.



Highlight the PREFERENCES icon by pressing UP/DOWN button.



Use the direction buttons to select Rating level, press ENTER button to confirm.



Select your desired rating level using the UP/DOWN buttons the press ENTER. Note: The pre-set / universal password is enclosed on the last page of this manual



Input the password using the number keys, highlight OK and press ENTER to confirm.



Press SETUP button to exit setup, press PLAY button to start.

16 Using the Setup Menu This player allows you to customise the performance to your personal preferences.

16.2 Channel Search The first time you want to watch or record the TV programs, you need to search and store the channels. •

Ensure the unit is in stop state. (no discs playing)



Press SETUP button to access the setup menu.



Press UP/DOWN button to highlight the RECORDING icon then press RIGHT button to access its options. Use the UP/DOWN button to highlight APS.



Press ENTER, a Confirm dialog box will be displayed, choose OK.



Its sub dialog box, Scan channels, will be displayed.



To STOP the search before it finishes, highlight the STOP button on the screen and press ENTER. It will return to the Setup Menu.



Press SETUP to exit the Setup Menu.

17 DVD Recording Before recording to optical disc, you should: •

Make connections to external equipment as illustrated at the start of this manual.



Insert a recordable DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW disc into the recorder loader tray.



Set up the record quality in the SETUP menu. The recorder default setting is recommended.

NOTE: DO NOT POWER OFF THE UNIT WITH THE ON / OFF BUTTON WHILE IN RECORDING MODE. Our company takes no responsibility for recording failure due to power outages, defective discs or damage to the recorder. Fingerprints, scratches or dirt on a disc can affect playback and/or recording performance. Please take proper care of your discs. Page 28 of 49 Rev 4

17.1 Recordable disc types

17.2 Chapter Markers This feature will automatically insert chapters at 5, 10, 20 and 30 minutes intervals during recording. The intervals can be programmed in SETUP menu to be OFF (default is “no marker”). •

17.3 Recording Quality You can select up to six record quality settings to define the picture quality of the recordings and the amount of space you want to use on the optical disc and hard disc. Higher quality recordings will consume more space and lower quality recordings will consume less space. Please note, for HDD, the recording time may vary depending on the environment or condition of use in the Time Shift mode.

17.5 Normal Recording •

Press SOURCE button repeatedly to select the desired input source.



Press NAVIGAT button to view the navigation information bar.



Press either Disc REC button to start recording to the DVD disc or press HDD REC to start recording to the Hard Disc Drive.



During recording status, the REC symbol on front display will be illuminated.



You can check the recording status by pressing NAVIGAT button to view navigation information bar. if you want to stop the bar from showing, press NAVIGAT button repeatedly until it disappears.



When you want to stop recording, Press STOP button. Note: For a new DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW, it may take about 3 minutes to format it before recording. Generally, for a DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW disc, it will take a few minutes to process the disc when you press the “STOP” button after recording.

17.6 One-Touch Recording •

Press SOURCE button repeatedly to select the desired input source



Press NAVIGAT button to view the navigation information bar



Press either the Disc REC (to record to DVD) or HDD Rec (to record to the Hard Drive) button on the remote control. The recorder will enter the record mode.

Note :Press the Disc REC or HDD Rec button again (depending on your original selection) and the record time will set to 30 minutes. Press again and it will extend for another 30 minutes and so on. The actual length of recording time is determined by disc capacity and record quality. If you press too many times, it will be return to normal recording. •

If you want to stop recording, Press STOP button.

You maybe not able to enter the record state due to the differences between disc format and input source format. Please change the disc or change the signal input format. NOTE: By pressing the RECORD button on the front panel or the recorder, recording can only be to the HDD. All other functions, as stated above, remains the same.

Note: The timer recording function is only effective under Standby state. In Standby mode, your recorder will wake up approximately 2 minutes before recording is due to start. During recording, you can press STOP to suspend the recording. A DVD+RW/DVD+R can record for up to 343 minutes and up to 48 titles depending on the quality setting and disc space. If you want to delete a schedule, highlight the title to be deleted and press the ADD/CLEAR button. It is advisable, when Timer Recording, to set the Start time 10 minutes prior, and the Finish time 10 minutes after, the scheduled TV broadcast time as some programs are not started or finished as scheduled.

17.9 Recording TV Program 17.9.1 Recording to DVD •

Press Source button until the TV source is found.



Press CH+ or CH- button or number buttons to access your desired channel.



Make sure the “Record to: Optical Disc” is in the information bar.



Press Disc REC to start recording. The Sys state will be changed from STOP to RECORDING.



To stop recording, press STOP button. The Sys state will be changed to STOPPING, and will soon change to STOP when the disc has completed processing.

NOTE: To view the recorded program, press DVD button, choose the title you desire and press ENTER. The information bar can be turned on or off by pressing the Navigat button repeatedly until it disappears.

17.9.2 Recording to HDD Press HDD button once only (press twice will enter HDD menu) to change the display in the information bar as “Record to: Hard Disk”. Recording method is the same as recording to optical disc (DVD).

To change the record storage from Hard Disc back to Optical Disc, press DVD button only once. To change the record storage from Optical Disc back to Hard Disc, press HDD button only once

18 Editing Recordable DVD Disc •

Insert a recorded DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW disc on the disc tray.



Press DISC OPER button to access the disc editing menu.



Press LEFT button to enter the disc operation menu.

Note: different interface menus will be displayed according to different disc type as shown below

18.1 Play Disc (DVD+R/-R or DVD+RW/-RW) •

Select “Play” from the menu options by using UP ▲ or DOWN ▼ button then press ENTER.



The disc will playback from the beginning title to the end.

18.2 Erase Optical Disc (DVD+RW / -RW only) •

Select “Erase Optical Disc” from the menu options by using UP ▲ or DOWN ▼ button then press ENTER.



An “Erase Optical Disc” prompt dialog box will appear. Select “OK“ by using LEFT◄ or RIGHT► button and press ENTER to erase the contents of a disc, or, select “NO” and press ENTER to ignore.

18.3 Record a New Title (DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW) •

Highlight the “Record a new title” option icon and press ENTER to confirm.



The unit will exit the disc operation mode and switch to the monitor mode, thus, you may now start the record operation to record a new title.

18.4 Rename Disc (DVD+R/RW or DVD-R/RW) •

Press ENTER button after selecting “Rename disc“ option by using ▲ or▼ button. The keyboard will show on the screen. The last line on the keyboard is control bars for editing command

18.5 Overwrite disc (DVD+RW / -RW) •

Highlight the “Overwrite disc” option icon and press ENTER to confirm.



The unit will exit the disc operation mode and switch to the monitor mode, thus, you may now start the record operation.

18.6 Lock (DVD+RW/-RW) •

Highlight the “Lock disc” icon and press ENTER to confirm. The information box will show you have locked the disc.



If the disc locked, you cannot make anymore changes except play back.



To unlock the disc, return to the menu and choose UNLOCK.

18.7 Finalise Disc (DVD +R / -R / -RW) •

Highlight the “Finalize disc” option icon and press ENTER to confirm.



It will take a few minutes to finalize the disc.

Note: If a DVD+R / -R disc has been finalised, you can not record or edit the disc any more. If you want to make your disc compatible with the other DVD players, you should go to the FINALIZE Operation. •

A DVD-RW disc may be un-finalised. To un-finalise the disc, return to the menu and choose UN-FINALIZE.

19 Editing a Disc 19.1 Editing a Title of DVD-/+RW •

Insert a recorded DVD+RW on the disc tray.

Press EDIT on the remote control to and the following Edit Menu will display.



The title will playback during the edit operation.

19.2 Chapter Editing From the menu, select the Chapter Marker icon, press ENTER. Use the UP/DOWN to select one of the following: •

Insert marker, select by pressing ENTER. A new chapter marker will be added to the current point.



Delete marker, select by pressing ENTER The marker of the current chapter will be deleted.



Delete all markers, select by pressing ENTER All of the chapter markers will be deleted.



Note: If only one chapter is available, there is only Insert marker to select.

19.3 Chapter Hide or Unhide •

From the menu, select the Hide chapter icon, press ENTER. Note: If the chapter has already been hidden, select Unhide to unhide the chapter.



The Hide and Unhide will cycle with every press of the ENTER button.

19.4 Title Icon (Index picture) •

From the menu, select the Index Picture icon. If you want to change the miniature title picture, which displays when you insert the disc, press ENTER at the exact scene (frame) you would like displayed.

19.5 Split Title •

Select the title you want to divide.



Press UP/DOWN to select the Split title menu.



Press ENTER at the point where you want to split the title. This will divide the current title into 2 titles.

Note: Some function options are unused if you are using a DVD+R disc to record the video/audio information. The functions are valid when a DVD+RW disc is inserted. It will take approximately 5 – 10mins to split the title and finish processing depending on the title size. Page 37 of 49 Rev 4

20 Time Shift - Buffer & Recording Note: This function is not available for recording to DVD 20.1 Live TV Broadcast Buffer Mode To enter Time Shift mode, follow the steps below in order. •

Press HDD button on the remote controller. The system will enter the HDD monitor mode.



Press SOURCE button to choose the TV input source. The system will enter time-shift mode & buffer mode. The front display will show “TS” and the time shift bar will display on the screen.

In time-shift mode, the recorder will establish a buffer to store scenes of the Live TV broadcast. This means, the TV program will be stored in the DVD Recorders’ memory, not to the HDD. •

This is useful, as if you are watching TV and you are distracted or have to leave the room causing you to miss a scene, all you need to do when you return is to press the LEFT button repeatedly to step back at 10 second intervals until you find the beginning of the scene you missed. The program will start to playback while the rest of the TV program continues be stored into the memory.



To catch up to the present live broadcast, just push the RIGHT button repeatedly to step forward at 10 second intervals until you reach the end of the stored information (the time box will change to “Live” when you reach the end of the memory).



Alternately, you can use the Fast Forward or Fast Back function to advance or go back. There are three speed settings which operate each time you press the FF or FB buttons.

If you want to watch the TV program at a later time, follow the steps following under Live TV Broadcast Record Mode. •

Press DVD button to exit the Time Shift mode.

NOTE: During time-shifting mode, you can press NAVIGAT button to view the help and status bar. If you change to another TV channel, the time-shift mode will reset and the contents in the memory will be erased. The newly selected TV channel will start to be stored into memory. Page 38 of 49 Rev 4

20.2 Live TV Broadcast Record Mode To enter Time Shift mode, follow the steps below in order. •

Press HDD button on the remote controller. The system will enter the HDD monitor mode.



Press SOURCE button to choose the TV input source. The system will enter time-shift mode & buffer mode. The front display will show “TS” and the time shift bar will display on the screen.

In time-shift mode, the recorder will establish a buffer to store scenes of the Live TV broadcast. This means, the TV program will be stored in the DVD Recorders’ memory, not to the HDD. To record the TV program for later viewing, Press the HDD REC button. This will start recording the program to the HDD as opposed to Buffer mode only storing to memory. The recording will only start from where you press the HDD REC button. It will not record any previous information stored in the buffer. •

As with the Buffer Mode, whilst recording you can still press the LEFT button repeatedly to step back at 10 second intervals until you find the beginning of the scene or program you missed. The program will start to playback while the rest of the TV program continues be recorded to the HDD.



To catch up to the present live broadcast, just push the RIGHT button repeatedly to step forward at 10 second intervals until you reach the end of the stored information (the time box will change to “Live” when you reach the end of the memory).



Alternately, you can use the Fast Forward or Fast Back function to advance or go back. There are three speed settings which operate each time you press the FF or FB buttons. 21 Dubbing (Copying) Prior to selecting programs for dubbing, you need to insert a recordable disk into the tray. If the disc is used for the first time, the recorder may take a few moments to format the disk, determine compatibility and free recordable space. •

Press HDD to enter the HDD Title list screen. Use UP/DOWN to navigate the list and press Add/Clear to select the highlighted program for Dubbing.



Once a program is selected, the Dubbing Icon will appear next to it on the title list.



Press Add/Clear button. Note: Press Add/Clear again if the Selection needs be removed (cleared).



As you Select or de-Select programs, the disk capacity information will be updated on the top right corner of the screen.

Note: If the program you are about to select is determined to be bigger than the space available on the disk, the recorder will provide the following message: “DVD disk is full”. •

If the disk is replaced or removed prior to Dubbing, all Dubbing selections will be cleared.



Press DUB on the remote control. The monitor will return to the previous input source (i.e. TV Program) while at the same time, the selected title/s will be copied from the HDD to the DVD.



The icon will display in the top left corner of the screen and will disappear when the copy is complete.

22 HDD Sorting 22.1 HDD Title List •

Press HDD to see the HDD title list.

The title list also allows you to select title(s) for dubbing to DVD, start playing a program or edit a program. Most common hot keys and navigation information are provided on the screen. Note: The dynamic navigator tells you which button keys are active. The keys correspond to the same key configuration on your remote control. Use them to navigate.

22.2 Sorting This function allows you to view the HDD tile list in different orders. You first have to be in the title list screen (press HDD). Press the SLOW button repeatedly for one of the following sorting options: -

Sort by date/time descending: the most recent recording appears on top of the list

-

Sort by name ascending: Names in order: A to Z (programs with the same name will appear in ascending time order, with the oldest one being higher than the more recent one)

-

Sort by name descending, Names in order: Z to A (programs with the same name will appear in ascending time order, with the oldest one being higher than the more recent one)

-

Resume to default, sort by date/time ascending: most recent recording appears last on the list.

Note: The default order is by date/time ascending and will be applied every time you enter the HDD title list.

23 HDD Editing Eight operations are possible. All can be accessed from the Title list menu. •

Press HDD, navigate the list to select you desired title.



Press Right ARROW to get the Popup menu.



Then use the Up or Down ARROW to highlight your option and press ENTER to continue.



Your options are: Delete, Split, Segment, Change Index Pic, Rename, Lock and Protect.

23.1 Play



Highlight Play (use Up and Down arrows to navigate if needed) and press ENTER.



The playback will start.



Alternatively, once the program is highlighted on the title list you can press ENTER to start playing.

23.2 Delete •

Select Delete and press ENTER.



You will be prompted to confirm the operation (as it is irreversible).

Note: This operation is allowed only if the title is not protected or locked

23.3 Split This option brings up the Split screen. You can navigate the program (similar to Playback screen) and mark a location at which the program will be cut into 2 separate programs and registered on the HDD title list. Note: Split is irreversible. Once the program has been split, the 2 titles can not be reconnected. •

Select SPLIT and press ENTER.



During playback, press ENTER at the point where you want to split the title, then confirm or cancel the operation.

Note: This operation is allowed only if the title is not protected or locked

23.4 Segment This function lets you remove parts of the recorded information. •

Select Segment and press ENTER.



During playback, press ENTER at the point where you want to start the segment removal.



Press ENTER again at the point where you want to end the segment removal.



Play the title again and you will notice the selection has been removed.

Note: This operation is allowed only if the title is not protected or locked and is not reversible.

23.5 Change Index Picture This option brings up the Change Index Picture screen. •

Select Change Index Picture. If you want to change the miniature title picture, which displays when you insert the disc, press ENTER at the exact scene (frame) you would like displayed

23.6 Rename This option brings up the on-screen keyboard. •

Select Rename and press ENTER.



You can type in the title name for the title.



Use the button to highlight the desired key, and ENTER to select.

23.7 Lock / Unlock •

Once you have highlighted the program on the HDD title list, bring up the Popup menu by pressing the Right button.



Make sure Lock is highlighted (use Up and Down button to navigate if needed) and press ENTER.

Note: When you lock a program, the parental password selected in the Setup menu will be used (Refer back page for default password). •

The user will be asked to Unlock the program before Play or any Edit or Dubbing operation.



In order to Unlock, once you have highlighted the program on the HDD title list, bring up the Popup menu by pressing the Right button.



Make sure Unlock is highlighted (use Up and Down button to navigate if needed) and press ENTER.



You will be prompted to enter the password.



A Locked title will have a Lock icon next to its index picture on HDD title list.

23.8 Protect / Unprotect When you Protect a program, the user can Play the title or Dub it to DVD; but can not do any Edit operation (split, segment, change index picture, delete, etc). •

In order to Unprotect, once you have highlighted the program on the HDD title list, bring up the Popup menu by pressing the Right button.



Make sure Unprotect is highlighted (use Up and Down button to navigate if needed) and press Select.



A Protected title will have a Safe Box icon next to its index picture on HDD title list.

24 DV Input Recording You can record from a digital camcorder connected to the DV IN socket on the front panel of this recorder. •

Make sure your DV is connected to the front DV IN socket correctly.



Press DVD button on remote controller to exit timeshift mode.

Note: Time shift recording is not available for DV Recording •

Check that the DV audio input is as you require. Normally. you can choose between Audio 1 (original audio)and audio 2(over dubbed audio).



Press SOURCE button repeatedly until DV input is selected. This will display on the screen..



Find the place on the camcorder tape that you want to the recording to start from.



Press DISC REC or HDD REC button once, depending where you want to record to, The unit will start recording.



Press STOP to stop recording.

A small amount of picture distortion may appear because of a poor quality video sound transfer to disc. This is especially true of some discs manufactured between 1997-1998.. Scratched, dirty or damaged disc Connect the DVD player directly through the TV and not through any other source. What you are viewing is the effect of the copy protection circuitry required on all DVD players. If you don't have a video input on your TV, you must purchase an RF adapter from your dealer Place the disc with the graphics side up. Place the disc on the disc tray correctly and inside the location. Make sure the disc is free from scratches, dirt & fingerprints. Press the SETUP button to turn off the menu screen. Cancel the parental lock function or change the parental lock level. Turn the power off then disconnect the power plug and reinsert it back into the wall. Retry again. Re-burn disc as the software edition used may not be compatible with the player. Use the latest editions of software for burning. Make sure MP3 file are not encoded with a variable bit rate such as provided by Real Networks. The type of the disc is wrong, it is not a DVD+/-RW or DVD+/-R disc. The disc is full. The disc (DVD+/-R or DVD+/-RW) is locked, it should be unlocked. The DVD+/-R has been finilised. Different format(NTSC/PAL) between the disc and the input signal. The type of the disc is wrong, it is not a DVD+/-RW or DVD+/-R disc. The unit is in record mode or it is recording. Press STOP The setup of Interlaced or Progressive is wrong. Press the IP button to switch between each option.

Connect the power plug into the wall outlet securely. Press ON / STANDBY / OFF button Verify the connection from the DVD video output to the TV video input, then switch TV to appropriate mode (AV 1) Connect the video cable into the jacks securely. Refer to your television owners manual. Connect the audio cables into the jacks securely Verify the connection from the DVD audio output to the TV or receiver audio input, then switch to the appropriate source on the receiver. Refer to your audio amplifier owners manual.
