Message from Managing Director's Desk It has been almost 13 years now, since PSIT has entered in the field of education to serve the society. The Institute has steadily been in the pursuit of its objective of achieving Excellence in Technical Education, Leadership and Corporate. It gives me great pleasure and delight to present the third issue of the Newsletter of our Institute. This Newsletter carries all the information of our achievements and activities that took place in our campus in the past six months. We extend our thanks to the Hon'ble Chairman of the Institute for always motivating us to do better and providing us valuable support in developmental activities. Outreach Fire Fighting Workshop (July 17, 2016) Fire fighting training was held on 17thJuly by the Officials of fire extinguisher department. They made faculty, staff and students aware of the proper use of fire extinguishers and precautionary measures to be taken if some incident happens. Death Anniversary of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (July 27, 2016) Former president and Bharat Ratna Awardee RIP Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was remembered on his first death anniversary on 27th July 2016. Director PSIT Prof (Dr) KTV Reddy and Director Academic Dr. S.L. Shukla addressed all the faculty members, staff and students present on the occasion. Tree plantation was also conducted on the occasion. Big Golden Voice Season 6 Audition (August 12, 2016) The Big Golden Voice Season 6 was organized at PSIT campus where Sagar Agarwal (EN IV Year student) secured 2nd Position amongst 1500 auditions. Independence Day Celebration (August 15, 2016) With Freedom in the Mind, Faith in the words... Pride in our souls... Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm, patriotic fervor, zeal, zest and respect at PSIT. To Commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, Honorable Chairman unfurled the tricolor flag, all in unison sang the National Anthem and expressed the joy of our freedom. The special attractions of the programme were the performances by different NGOs- Utthan, Earth and Divyang Development Society. The students sang the Patriotic song that awakened everyone's feelings towards our mother land & charged up the atmosphere with patriotic spirit. A panel discussion among faculty members took place on topics Make in INDIA Practical Solution, Keeping Ourselves Relevant in the Fast Changing Global IT Scenario and Creating an effective Environment for Career Enhancement. Winners & participants were awarded with certificates. Indeed, it was a day of joy, a day to love and respect for our country and make it a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.

Orientation Programme (August 21, 2016) An orientation programme was organized for the newly admitted students at the institute premises on 21 August 2016. Orientation program was designed to support new students as they begin their journey. Students were introduced to life at the College, from academics and community norms to resources and support services. The major objective to organize the programme was to make the parents and students aware of the academic aspects of the course, the rules and regulations of the Institute and ensuring parental participation in monitoring the performance and progress of the students. Chief Guest, Mr. Atul Mehra President CII addressed the audience. In his brief address to the students and parents, Honorable Chairman reiterated the Management's commitment to elevate the Institute to the status of one of the best engineering colleges within the shortest time possible and he sought the cooperation and support of the parents for the same. Managing Director, Ms. Shefali Raj expressed her gratitude to the parents and students for having faith and confidence in the institution. Directors briefed the students about the rules and regulations of the institute and urged the students and parents to understand and abide by the institutional rules and norms. Necessary information about the academic design of the first year course and the University and Institute rules and regulations regarding academic matters were also given. Placement Pep Talk (August 26, 2016) Placement pep talk was organized by PSIT on 26th August 2016. The agenda was to brief the students about the interviews and recruitment patterns of different companies Waves- The Fresher's Party (September 5, 2016) 'Waves', the Freshers party for the first year students of different disciplines was witnessed by Chief Guest Mr. Vivek Raizada (Joint General Manager, Head-HR, North Zone, L&T Construction), Honorable Chairman, Vice Chairperson, Managing Director, Directors, Dean, HOD, Faculty, Staff & Students. As the name goes, the day marked the induction and integration of the new entrants in PSIT family. Waves party this year proved to be ever more jubilant and exciting. The College Band synergized their efforts towards a plethora of scintillating performances in the form of traditional, fusion & western. Group dance, Skit, exhilarating singing performances, special live performance by Vinti Singh-PSIT Alumna (Playback Singer for various Hindi, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani and South Indian movies) making a soulful evening. PSIT also saw a very active participation from the first year students who competed with full zeal and great enthusiasm to be crowned Mr. and Ms. Fresher’s 2016, after three rounds of exemplary performances comprising of Ramp Walk, Question & Answer Round, and Individual Talent Round.

"Accolade" - Award Function (September 12, 2016) PSIT has always believed in commending the students to inspire them to scale greater heights. An award function "Accolade" was held on November 12, 2016 to acknowledge the talent of brimming buddies of PSIT, PSITcoe, PSITche who have maintained 100% attendance & hold merit in university exams in session 2015-16. Medals, Appreciation Certificates and Cheque of Rs 5000/- each were distributed by Honorable chairman, Vice-chairperson, Managing Director & Chief Guest Mr. Vivek Tripathi (CHRO- LAVA International Ltd.) to the students for their hard work. The ceremony was witnessed by the Directors, Deans, HODs, Faculty members & proud parents of the students. The day was much awaited day in every students life, as it gives the returns to the effort put in by them throughout their academic endeavour. It gives them a sense of achievement and responsibility towards fulfilling further commitments. "Footprint" - Sports Day (September 12, 2016) The PSIT ground was filled with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere on 12th Nov 2016 as it was final day of ‘Footprint ' - Annual Sports Day of PSIT. As we all know that "All work & no play makes jack a dull boy", sports day helps to bound the college together, taking a break from studies to relax & recharge. Its objective was to develop sporting spirit in the students and to provide them a venue to display their physical prowess. The students displayed a wide array of reverberant events such as Volleyball, Throw ball, Football, Basketball, Badminton, Races, Chess, Carrom etc. The crowd, the music, the competition, the excitement of the game, and the liveliness and spontaneous actions of the spectators were noteworthy. Medals and certificates were distributed by Honorable chairman, Vice-chairperson, Managing Director, Chief guest Mr. Vivek Tripathi (CHRO- LAVA International Ltd.), Directors & Dean to the winners and runner-ups of various sports events. The efforts of students were applauded by Honorable chairman. It was an exciting day for PSITians, the day highlighted the importance of sports in the life of students.

Poster and Slogan making competition (September 18, 2016) CSJM University organized a poster and slogan making competition on 18th September of 2016 in which our student participated with enthusiasm. Student made posters related to social issues. Voter Awareness Program (September 28, 2016) Students are the future of the society. Hence, it is our responsibility to guide them to right path. Taking this into consideration PSIT organized a “Voter Awareness Program” to guide the first time voters of the college and made them aware of their rights as voters. Gandhi Jayanti (October 2, 2016) On 2nd October 2016 Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated to commemorate the birth of our father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi. On this occasion Director PSIT Prof. (Dr.) KTV Reddy garlanded picture of Mahatma Gandhi followed by his address to all the staff members about the teachings of Gandhi ji for a successful and meaningful life.

Anwesha (October 5, 2016) I-start (E-Cell PSIT) in association with IIT Kharagpur organized ANWESHA 2016-the cultural auditions by IIT Patna where there was screening of Fashion Show, Singing, Dance and Skit. The winners of the events got chance to participate in Final round conducted at IIT Patna. Jayanti of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam (October 15, 2016) Former president and missile man of India RIP Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was remembered on his birth anniversary on 15th October 2016. Director PSIT Prof. (Dr.) KTV Reddy addressed all the faculty members, staff and students present on the occasion.

Industrial Visit

An Industrial visit was held on 29 August 2016 in Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd for third year students of Mechanical Engineering department. Faculty members & students made hard efforts and initiative to make visit a grand success. It was a good experience, which has provided exposure to the students with industrial life. The students are benefited in terms of the technical details provided by the company & various career opportunities in industries. The students and faculty members enjoyed the technical endeavor during the visit. The company persons also appreciated our students after the question answer sessions. Visit was very informative and gave good learning experience.

Guest Lectures, Workshops& Seminars Faculty Development Program (July 5, 2016)

PSIT organized Faculty Development Program in Association with National HRD Network Lucknow Chapter on various Engineering and Management Techniques Technology Entrepreneurship Development (TEDP) (August 12, 2016) On day-1 seminar was conducted by Mr. Sandip Patil- Alumnus of IIT Kanpur, Dr. Sunil Dhole Director - Techno Orbitalism Tech and Dr.Daljeet Singh GM NABARD for UP. On day-2 seminar was conducted by Ms. Jaya Gupta, Manager SIDBI and Ms. Jhankar Katiyar, Assistant Manager SIDBI

Teacher's Day Workshop (September 5, 2016) Two-day Teachers Workshop on “How to Teach & Understand Physics Through Experiments” was organized on 5th September 2016 at PSIT. Prof HC Verma from IIT Kanpur was the resource person for the workshop. Guest Lecture by Mr. Manu Dhiman, Founder Propty Consulting, Kanpur on the topic ‘Mindfulness’ (September 8, 2016) Mr. Manu Dhiman, briefed the students of MBA second year regarding the importance of Mindfulness. Following is the excerpt from his session. Mindfulness means maintaining a momentby-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment. Mindfulness also involves acceptance, meaning that we pay attention to our thoughts and feelings without judging them—without believing, for instance, that there’s a “right” or “wrong” way to think or feel in a given moment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future.

Workshop by Mr. Ankit Agarwal, Co-Founder Help us Green , Kanpur on the topic ‘Creativity skills’ (September 27, 2016) Mr. Ankit Agarwal emphasized the importance of Creativity Skills in today’s business environment. Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible or a physical object. In his workshop, he conducted management games on creativity through which he disseminated, how creativity skills can be implemented in business situations. The students participated in the workshop with a lot of enthusiasm.

Workshop on Hack for India (October 10, 2016) A workshop on “Hack for India” was hosted by "Logix" - The PSIT Algo Club on 10th October 2016 at PSIT Campus. Students participated enthusiastically in the workshop.

Workshop on “Automobile Parts SAEINDIA”- Collegiate Club of PSIT, Kanpur (Dept. M.E.) (October 15, 2016) The workshop was conducted on 15th & 16th October 2016; to impart knowledge about various parts of an automobile. The workshop modules were: 1. Introduction: It included basic introduction of automobile and its course of evolution through history. It also included the latest technological advancements in automobiles. 2.

Chassis Design: It included various types of chassis and their fabrication methods.

3. Steering System: It included the working of steering system involving manual and power assisted steering

EAD (Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive) (October 17, 2016) In order to promote entrepreneurship and to support Government of India’s Start up India program, a student wing for entrepreneurship has been developed at PSIT named as I-Start. PSIT organized Entrepreneurship Awareness Drive on 17th October 2016 for the future entrepreneurs of PSIT. In this drive around 500 students of various branches of PSIT participated. The inaugural address was given by Honorable Managing Director Ms. Shefali Raj. The Speakers for the event were Mr. Kapil Raizada (Co-Founder of RailYatri.in), Mr. Sudeep Goenka (Director- Goldiee Group), Mr. Ankit Agarwal (Founder Helpusgreen) ,Mr. Jatin Singh (Founder & CEO at Skymet Weather). An Open House Discussion was done by Mr. Ankit Agarwal & Mr. Jatin Singh on "From Entrepreneurship to Social Entrepreneurship- Developing Leaders for Social Change", A Panel Discussion on "Challenges faced by Startups in Tier-2 Cities” also took place.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Program by MSME at PSIT (October 17, 2016) MSME –DI Kanpur organized an Entrepreneurship Awareness Program at PSIT on 17th of October 2016. Ms. Sudha Selvraj from IIT Kanpur addressed the audience and speakers from MSME gave information about the program available at MSME for the budding entrepreneurs.

Quiz Competition organized by Mechanical Engineering Students` Association (MESA) (November 7, 2016) MESA organized a departmental quiz on 7th November 2016 regarding technical aspects of Mechanical Engineering for all second and third year students. The students enthusiastically participated in the quiz. Workshop on LaTex (November 16, 2016) A workshop on how to use Latex for research article writing was organized by PSIT on 16th of November 2016. Various faculty members of PSIT who are actively involved in research enjoyed the session.

MSME- Awareness Program (November 25, 2016)

An awareness drive was organized by PSIT on “Support for Entrepreneurial and Managerial Development of SMEs through Incubators” on 25th November 2016.

Workshop on Virtual Lab Workshop (November 30, 2016) On 30 Nov 2016 Prof. NishchalVerma from department of Electrical Engineering IIT Kanpur delivered very informative lecture on Transducers and Instrumentation for the faulty members of PSIT. The program ended with vote of thanks to the speaker by Dean R&D PSIT Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari. About 70 faculty members from various departments of PSIT participated in the event. Every participant appreciated the use of virtual labs as a substitute of hardware experiment. Seminar on Fast Reactor Technology by Prof Anil Kumar Sharma from IGCAR Kalpakkam (December 15, 2016) Prof. Anil Kumar Sharma, Senior Scientist from Indira Gandhi Centre of Atomic research Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu visited PSIT on 15th of December 2016. He gave an overview about the Fast Reactor Technology Program of Government of India. He also discussed various areas of future collaboration of PSIT with IGCAR in the field of Fast reactor safety. About 200 faculty members from PSIT attended the event. Welcome address was given by Director PSIT Prof (Dr) KTV Reddy and vote of thanks was given by Dean R&D PSIT Dr. Ashutosh Tiwari.

Placement The training & Placement Cell is committed to provide all possible assistance to its graduates and post graduates in their efforts to find employment. This commitment is demonstrated by the existence of a full-time Training & Placement Cell. The training & placement service operates year round to facilitate contacts between companies & graduates. Staff members are available to respond to students’ queries and concerns of all kinds. This includes advice on placement procedures; help to prepare applications for employment and mock interviews. The aim is to ensure that students have the information and skills necessary for an effective job search. Those considering careers in education or its related fields are offered detailed career guidance at the Training & Placement Cell. All counseling is based on up to-date placement statistics and an envisioned view of future educational and industrial trends. Additionally, the Training & Placement Cell helps the students to improve their communication skills and presentation skills, as a result of which reputed companies are visiting PSIT to recruit them. Cognitio 2016 (August 20, 2016) 20th August, 2016: The National Human Resource Development Network (NHRDN) Lucknow Chapter, in collaboration with PSIT Kanpur, organized Cognitio 2016-School Quiz Program. Students of classes XI and XII participated in it. The final round was held at PSIT Kanpur. Twenty-five schools from Lucknow (12) and Kanpur (13) took part during the ongoing school quiz. The winners received cash prize of Rs 15,000. The first runners-up received Rs 10,000 and second runners-up Rs. 5,000. The winners were: Siddhant Singh and Pranay Mishra from Army Public School, Lucknow; second position winners were Astitva Kumar Gupta and Prajval Gupta from Dr Virendra Education Center, Kanpur; while the third position winners were Abhay Pratap Singhy and DilipPaudel from St Aloysius High School, Kanpur. It turned out to be a mega event with a mega response from schools.

Connect Workshop for School Students (HAL) One day Connect workshop on Robotics, Pharmacy & Management was organized by PSIT, Kanpur for school students of HAL Kanpur.

18th Rotary Metro Inter School G.K Quiz Competition & Science Exhibition (October 2, 2016) An inter school GK Quiz Competition and Science Exhibition was held at PSIT in collaboration with Rotary Club Kanpur on 2nd October 2016. 20 schools of Kanpur participated in it.

Clubs@PSIT Bastion –The English Club, PSIT Study in Europe (September 6, 2016) To assuage the students dream to study abroad, as a member of, Academic Cooperation Association- Belgium, IIT Kanpur has organized "Study in Europe” to share the information with us on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at our campus. The session was addressed by Ms Anuroopa Dixit (Programme Officer, DAAD Regional Office India ) and Ms Kanika Bharadwaj (Manager –Campus France, Delhi) and Mr Nilesh Gaikwad (International Admissions representative, Idia from Ecole des Hautes, Etues Commerciales Business School). The Session not just opened the new vistas for studies and hands on experience to our students but also answered their anxieties. How to Bring out the Best in You (September 10, 2016)

The session for students entitled ‘How to Bring out the Best in You’ was organized on 10 September 2016 at PSIT Campus. The session was addressed was Professor Shekhar Shukla of IIM Lucknow. Face Value Vs Place Value (October 2, 2016) The hostler were shown two movies ‘The Social Media’ and ‘In Pursuit of Happiness’ on 02 October 2016 and 26 September 2016 respectively. An open discussion was followed after the both films. The idea behind the event was to inform them about netiquettes and how to behave on social media and face other aspects of life. Touching the Sky with Glory (November 15, 2016) 15 November 2016 saw the rising of a new Sun on the students and campus alike. The oath of office was administered to the students who were recently elected to the office with good wishes streaming in from a person no less than The Managing Director, PSIT and Patron of the Club, Ms Shefali Raj. Prayas - The Eco Club Food Saving Awareness skit (August 3, 2016) An awareness skit on food saving was conducted in girls mess.

Visit to a village (August 6, 2016) PSITians went to a village adopted by TATA Motors for CSR activities.  Volunteers conducted a rally for awareness in the village.  Plant a sapling event.  Volunteers went door to door and discussed environmental issues with the villagers.  PSITians went to a primary school to aware next generation about environmental issues. Skit on polythene ban (September 3, 2016) Volunteers conducted a skit near canteen area to stop the use of polythene in the campus.

Swatch Bharat Abhiyan (October 2, 2016) Volunteers clean the court area and painted the walls by giving the environmental saving messages. Visit at IIT, Kanpur (October 15, 2016) A visit to IIT Kanpur was conducted to understand the technicalities of compost plant on 15th October 2016. Activity at Raina Market (November 13, 2016) Volunteers clean and painted the market by writing environmental awareness messages. Inauguration of Compost Plant (November 26, 2016) Ms. Shefali Raj, Managing Director PSIT inaugurated Compost Plant at PSIT Campus on 26th November 2016.

Hand Wash Activity (September 16, 2016) PSIT Kanpur organized hand wash activity for Utthan students on 16th Sep 2016. Student volunteers guided & created awareness about the importance of hygiene in individual life.

Distribution of Uniform to Utthan Kids (September 20, 2016) Mr.Sudhir Mishra (Geo Lead-talent Acquisition Infosys Limited) while his visit to PSIT for campus recruitment interacted & distributed uniforms to unprivileged children who do not go to school to give them feel of being in school. He appreciated the efforts taken by PSITians to educate these unprivileged children.

Distribution of Anti Pollution Mask & Traffic Safety Jackets (October 22, 2016) Traffic Safety Jackets &Anti Pollution Mask were distributed to security guards by Ms. Rupa Bhalla (Head Cultural) and Volunteers of Utthan under the guidance of Ms. Shefali Raj (MD PSIT) Diwali Celebration (October 26, 2016) PSITians feel that there is nothing better than supporting the needy during Diwali and light up their lives with a smile. Anything that can help remove the sorrow of the needy should be donated, PSIT took a great initiative to serve the society by donating cloths , crackers , sweets & diyas to such needy persons on the occasion of diwali. On Sports day (12 Nov) when all students were enjoying sports, BBA students & Utthan volunteers were engaged in a noble work of generating funds for underprivileged children by selling paper bags & eatables @ PSIT. The amount generated was contributed in Utthan account. Children Day Celebration (November 14, 2016) On children’s day (14 Nov) unprivileged children of Utthan enjoyed ICECREAM TREAT given by Mr. Rishi in canteen. to Poor Children

PSIT students donated useful items to poor children under an initiative- UTTHAN- A Rainbow of Hope Regular Classes for Needy Children Regular classes for unprivileged children are conducted in P-11, P-12 & P-13 rooms of PSIT. In P-11 nursery to class 5th, in P-12 education is imparted to those students who do not go to school and in P-13 class 6th to 12th students are guided & mentored by PSITians. Regular PTM meeting is also organized for the parents of these unprivileged children to let them know about the development of their child.
