Presenters Anne Marie Chow, Middle School Literacy Coach and English Teacher at United World College South East Asia, has taught in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Singapore. She earned her BS from Milligan College. She brings a unique understanding of reading instruction from her experience teaching reading across both primary grades and middle school. Anne Marie has presented at regional workshops on reading and writing workshop. Scarred from early reading experiences of repeatedly being placed in the lowest reading group, Anne Marie learned to “fake read” to get through high school English classes. In college, she decided enough was enough and started learning how to read deeply. She was hooked and has been an avid reader ever since. Now, she loves helping students develop their identity and confidence as readers.

Scott Riley, Middle School Instructional Coach at Singapore American School, has been a teacher and curriculum coordinator for over twenty years in the US, Indonesia, Czech Republic, and Singapore. He has presented at regional and national conferences on reader response and literacy skill development, and he currently serves on the NCTE Orbis Pictus Award Committee. Scott earned his BA from Dickinson College and his MA in Teaching and Curriculum from Michigan State University. A recovering non-reader and reluctant writer himself, Scott believes deeply in enriching his students’ lives through books and empowering them by finding their voices as writers. He knows that his own reading and writing enables him to teach from the heart.
