Teaching Innovation Projects Final Project Report Form 2012/13 Educational egaming to improve student engagement and promote inter-disciplinary learning Outcomes and impacts: This educational e-game has been embedded as a formal practical for SPGS undergraduate BSc students taking ESC-20040, ESC-20054 and CHE-30034 modules. It has also currently offered as an optional learning tool for undergraduate BSc students taking ESC-30009, CHE-30011, postgraduate taught students taking ESC-40007 and postgraduate research students taking CHE-40010.
Further achievements: The successful completion of this e-game has allowed further funding to be requested by the Higher Education Academy (see future work).
Evaluation: Use of this e-game in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching modules at Keele has been evaluated through the 2012-13 student cohort, with results written up and submitted as a pedagogic article (see dissemination box).
Dissemination and outputs, including materials developed: A poster presentation was given at Keele’s Annual Teaching Symposium in 2013. Future work: This e-game will, given future funding, be rolled out as a freely available, online application for interested users to download worldwide. Funding approval for this next stage is currently being decided upon by the Higher Education Academy (2013 Individual Teaching Grant). Another pedagogic article, based on both this e-game and a previously developed one, will also be submitted to Geology Today journal in 2014.
