With many spring improvement projects on the horizon, the Division of Professions and Occupations at DORA wants consumers to be knowledgeable about the required permits and the importance of ensuring that the work is installed in a code-compliant and safe manner, either by a licensed and registered professional or by the qualified homeowner. All new electrical and plumbing installations require a permit and inspection. Nearly all plumbing work outside the structure doesn’t require a permit. Electrical connections to the meter in general do require a permit. But there are exceptions, and exemptions. Check with your local authority having jurisdiction to find out what the requirements are for your

specific project.
