Balance like acidic 8 e- + 10 H+ + NO3-(aq) → NH4+(aq) + 3 H2O Add the same number of OH- as H+ to both sides. 10 OH- + 8 e- + 10 H+ + NO3-(aq) → NH4+(aq) + 3 H2O + 10 OHThe 10 OH- combines with the 10 H+ to form 10 water molecules 10 H2O + 8 e- + NO3-(aq) → NH4+(aq) + 3 H2O + 10 OHRemove 3 H2O FROM EACH SIDE for the final equation. 7 H2O + 8 e- + NO3-(aq) → NH4+(aq) + 10 OH-

(b)

Acidic:

H2C2O4(s) → 2 CO2(g) + 2 H+ + 2 e-

Basic:

2 OH- + H2C2O4(s) → 2 CO2(g) + 2 H+ + 2 e- + 2 OH2 OH- + H2C2O4(s) → 2 CO2(g) + 2 H2O + 2 eNo water to remove in this example!!

20 H2O + As2S3(s) → 2 H2AsO4-(aq) + 3 SO42-(aq) + 36 H+ + 28 e-

Basic:
