EMPLOYMENT EQUITY Background Employment equity involves a systemic approach to achieve fairness in employment. The aim of employment equity is the achievement of a workplace where designated groups are reflective of the population served by the district. In ensuring equity of treatment and opportunity, the district takes into account the teachings of the Catholic Church. Systemic measures, in the context of employment equity, are required in order to identify imbalances and discriminatory practices, and include strategies to correct these imbalances through programs in hiring, professional development and promotion. The application of these systemic measures allows for a transition period for the achievement of the goals of employment equity. The district recognizes the importance of hiring and promoting qualified people. Equal opportunities will be extended to all employees and applicants who meet the qualifications established for the position for which application is made. Procedures 1. Having due regard for contractual obligations, the district, through the superintendent, human resources, will: 1.1
