Course Overview ( Description) This course consists of different sectors to help students in the process of learning English language. The sections are useful vocabularies of different topics, grammar, writing skills, speaking, comprehension skills, and general issues, which are important for students. There are variety of vocabularies that will help students to recognize how words and expressions are presented, what they mean in different contexts, and how to find other forms of the same word and how they are pronounced. The exercises designed to help the students how to use English and to help them to use English dictionary more efficiently, both in the classroom and the home, in order to communicate in everyday situation. Grammar is very important within the English language, since it is, like the glue that holds language together. With the use of incorrect grammar, sentences can become meaningless and the message becomes unclear. This means that one cannot communicate effectively and any written grammatically incorrect text may be quite confused. Grammar is the way in which sentences are structured and the language is formulated. Therefore, it is worth the time and effort to study it in the best way. The related activities support the development of essential reading skills, at text level, encouraging students to read at different levels including literal and evaluative comprehension skills. The course book is designed in a way that uses colourful images to complement the reading and helps to engage students to do the activities. The stimulus passages are also used to help students develop skills at sentence level (grammar) and word level (spelling and vocabulary). Moreover, fundamental areas are illustrated for the students in order to be aware of such as the employment at companies after graduation. The linguistic level is appropriate for the students’ English level. It is flexible for the teacher to move on the units. This course book allows the teacher to move from any unit, the teacher can pick the suitable topic for the students and then goes for the most difficult part. The course book includes activities that are well balanced in order to their level of English and the four skills. There is a sufficient amount of communicative output in the materials under consideration. The recommended methods and approaches are suitable for students and classroom. There is a good balance between what the examination requires and what the students need.

Course Objectives This English course is planned for the first year students of all departments but the English department, who need to learn English Language to enable them communicate and write English in the correct way. This course is important for students since it would offer basic requirements to their other subjects that they take during their undergraduate study in the department and in their future postgraduate studies and future careers in the field of language. The first one continues to midJanuary followed by End-of-semester exams. The second term begins after that up to mid-May when the End-of-semester exams begin for the second time. First years have two hours of English class a week, each takes 45 minutes. Classes are planned according to the University Calendar.
