Violence Prevention CeaseFire Outreach Worker Job Description Reports to: Ceasefire Field Supervisor Accountable to: Executive Director, Violence Prevention Director, Violence Prevention Program Manager, Violence Prevention Administrator, and the Ceasefire Team Communicates with: CeaseFire participants and their families, community partners, neighborhood stakeholders, parents and students Informs: Little Village community To prevent shootings in the neighborhood assigned, Outreach Workers have the following responsibilities: • Get to know and support all the highest risk persons in the community; • Work to intervene in circumstances in which violence is likely, including possible retaliation; • Work to understand why a shooting happened and how to prevent them in the future; • Develop strategies to be better informed about potential community violence; • Work to gain the trust of the community and the highest risk persons so that they know the role of street outreach workers and CeaseFire; and • Knowing when to call for assistance when situations require it. Job duties are as follows: • Anticipate and be responsive to the CeaseFire Field Supervisor’s requests and needs; • Continuously keep CeaseFire Field Supervisor informed of what is going on in the community and with the program; • Work as a member of a team; • Outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups; • Identify youth who are gang members and those at-risk for joining gangs and intervening in their lives through case management to aid in solving current problems and preventing future ones; • Serve as linkages and support for individuals to enhance their assistance and use of opportunities and programs in the community (e.g., jobs, GED, drug treatment, counseling); • Advocate for youth through court testimonies, when necessary; • Participate, as necessary, in organizing responses to shootings and increasing CeaseFire’s visibility when shootings/ killings take place; • develop networks with other outreach program workers to coordinate strategic responses to violence; • Mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups; • Work with the community, outreach programs, and local law enforcement to gain information that may be helpful in preventing violence; • Identify and diffuse “hot spots” for shootings and violence; • Document shootings and other acts of violence prevented; • Respond to shootings in other communities, when necessary; • Document detailed client case notes; and

Qualifications: • Experience working with at-risk youth and gang members • No pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault, child abuse, or domestic violence • Excellent communication skills • Experience or training in crisis intervention • Knowledge of Little Village community • Valid Illinois driver’s license, insurance, and good driving record Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to Jesus Salazar at
