The question now arises: Could there be human beings lacking in the capacity to see something as something — and what would that be like? What sort of consequences would it have? —Would this defect be comparable to colour-blindness or to not having absolute pitch? — We will call it "aspect-blindness" — and will next consider what might be meant by this. The 'aspect-blind' will have an altogether different relationship to pictures from ours. (Anomalies of this kind are easy for us to imagine.) Aspect-blindness will be akin to the lack of a 'musical ear'. The importance of this concept lies in the connexion between the concepts of 'seeing an aspect' and 'experiencing the meaning of a word'. For we want to ask "What would you be missing if you did not experience the meaning of a word?" Some researchers have commented that psychopaths “know the words but not the music,” a statement that accurately captures their cold and empty core. This hollow core serves them well, though, by making them effective human predators.
