Watch or read anything, and ask if you can pick out things like protagonist, antagonist, setting, internal and external conflict, know what part of the plot is what, find similes and metaphors or other examples of figurative language. Listen to, watch or read news. What parts are facts, what are opinions? Any questions related to the items in the course review are good choices.

Language Arts - Part A Preparing for the Part A can be a little hard, as there aren’t practice question. Students should look back over their marks through the year on writing assessments of stories and essays and see which they tended to score better on. They can try the Practice Part A. If they do a trial story and essay and ask me to look at them, I will read both and tell them which is better. Once they decide if they are better at either choice, spending some time reviewing the samples (located in Google Drive) of both essays and stories is a good idea. THey can look at an above level, at level and below level sample, which have attached rubrics, to really look in depth at what makes a good one and what they should make sure they include in their own writing. Also going over the Writer’s Checklist is a good idea. Students will have access to copies of it during the exam, but they need to know in advance what the items in the list mean and how to do it. https://sites.google.com/site/fmsuperteachers/la7/la7_files_links
