"Exocometary gas in the HD181327 and Eta Corvi debris discs" by Sebastian Marino
Synopsis: At least 20% of AFGK main sequence stars have a debris disc. Gas in these systems should have been dispersed; however, the discovery of gas in a few young systems during the last two decades has challenged our understanding of the boundaries and transition between protoplanetary and debris discs. The origin of this gas is still under debate; however, recent observations have allowed dynamical studies and thus a more detailed picture. For example, this has favoured a secondary origin scenario in the case of β Pictoris. In this talk I will focus on new ALMA observations of the debris discs in HD 181327 and Eta Corvi, which show evidence of CO gas being released in destructive collisions and sublimating icy bodies crossing the water snowline, similar to comets in the Solar System. These new observations are the first steps to start connecting the volatile content in planetesimals and in Solar System comets and need to be considered in planet formation models.
