Faith Works Series Andy Kvernen November 5, 2017 Privileged Beware! James 5:1-6 1. Warning against _________________________ – (v. 4)
2. Warning against _________________________ – (v. 5)
3. Warning against _________________________ – (v. 6)
To Go 1. If you find yourself in a place of privilege and are failing to heed the warnings of this text, repent (v. 1) and be forgiven. Note the example of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1–10. 2. If you are suffering under the unjust authority or privilege of someone else, invite God to be your avenger (v. 2-3). Read Romans 12:18–20 and trust God’s timing and provision. 3. Following Christ means making Him our highest priority. Spend some time in Luke 14:25–33 and ask yourself, “Is there anything I’m holding back from God?” Is there anything I’m clinging to more than him? If the answer is yes, invite God to help you renounce your possessions and follow His Son with everything that you have and everything that you are.
At Home Study Guide For the week of November 5, 2017 James 5:1-6
This fall we will consider the book of James and its application to us today. As you study the passage, look beyond your notes to glean more truth from this passage by using these questions, so that you know God better! Context: How does James connect his thoughts from the previous section to these six verses? How does he mirror Jesus’ sermon on the Mount (Matthew 6:19)?
Observation: What kind of tone does James have in these six verses? Why do you think he is writing in this way?
Meaning: Is James addressing believers or unbelievers in these verses? For what is he condemning the rich landowners?
Application: Are riches and wealth always bad? Consider how you are using what God has given you. Does your use of money and wealth glorify God or distract you from God? How does that need to change?
