Reinvent You!

Why is creativity so important to our development? Reinvent you through creativity! Creativity is the power to connect the seemingly unconnected. Many often confuse creativity with artistic expression (this is one way to think of it). True creativity encompasses so much more. It is the ability to approach and resolve problems in unexpected ways, whether these are practical, emotional, artistic or spiritual. We use our intuition and instincts to creatively deal with challenges and opportunities that come our way, and it is necessary to tap into these for each of us to meet our true potential. You will walk away with a list of ideas to expand your creativity! #681-008

Tues, Nov. 14

Create a Vision Board!

Would you like to go on a “journey” to make a positive change? A vision board is a powerful visualization tool that you can use as inspiration for your journey toward your ideal life. A vision board is a collage of pictures, words and quotes that serve to remind you of your passion and purpose. When you are aware of what is going on in your own life, you are then in a position to change it for the better. We can communicate deeper with ourselves and others through images and color. Leave with your vision board to live your intention of your vision, dream or goals.

Learn how to type on a computer keyboard using the touch system. Teaching kids to “touch” type is a great skill to have early on and will save a tremendous amount of time later. One of the most important reasons to get kids typing is it helps to get them thinking faster. In academic terms, this is called “cognitive automaticity”. With typing youth are freed from the slowness of handwriting, finally allowing them to get their ideas down at the speed of thought. View full description online. $65/12 Sessions Mon. & Weds. Ceramic Drop Platters

Making a plate by dropping it? Yes, it’s true! Start by placing a rolled-out slab of clay over a wood frame, hold the frame about chest height, take a big breath…and let go! When it lands, the clay slumps into the frame making a platter. Kids can then decorate their platters with stamps and rollers, and then apply colorful glazes. This method of making clay platters is loads of fun and we laugh a lot while we make these!

Aquatics & Safety Learn to swim with Lakeville Area Community Ed! Our caring and dedicated instructors are Red Cross trained and certified to help your child enjoy developing swimming and water safety skills in a positive learning environment. Safety topics are included in all classes: basic water safety, healthy swimming, safe water entry, helping yourself and others in an emergency, and safe weather conditions for swimming. Pre-requisite for each level is the mastery of skills from the preceding level or equivalent skills. Each child is provided with a skill assessment within the first two classes to determine appropriate level placement. Each student receives a progress report at the middle of the session and at the end of the session. It is common for a child to repeat a level before mastering all skills. Semi-Private lessons must register 2 swimmers and it is recommended the students are at a similar skill level. For complete class descriptions and comparison of levels to other swim programs, please visit our website: www.LakevilleAreaCommunityEd.org

Early Childhood Family Education Welcome to ECFE Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a Lakeville Area School District Community Education program that strengthens families with young children through education and support. The components of most classes are:

1. Growing Together: For You and Your Child

The first half of each class is devoted to activities planned by a licensed early childhood teacher for parents and children to explore together. Together you can enjoy learning through art, music, stories and a variety of developmental activities. It is an opportunity to learn new ideas, games and activities that you can do at home.

2. Growing Independently: For Your Child

The remaining portion of each class is for children to have fun learning through play using art, movement, games and stories with the early childhood teacher, the classroom assistant and the other children. New friendships are formed and children discover new aspects of “me” while they learn apart from you. The goal of the children’s program is to develop a healthy self-concept and a joy of learning.

ECFE

3. Growing Confidently: For You

While children take part in the children’s program, parents join with other parents in an informal group setting for discussion time led by a licensed parent educator. The challenges of being a parent are enjoyable, complex, and at times, stressful. Parents have the opportunity to choose and discuss current family topics, share ideas and concerns and feel encouraged by the support of others.

Early Childhood Family Education ECFE Advisory Council By Krissy DeMartino, Advisory Council Chair Becoming a parent is undoubtedly the most thrilling, exciting, and challenging journey I have been on. It’s a constant rollercoaster consisting of high highs, low lows, smooth downhills, and jerky inclines. After beginning my parenting journey, and experiencing this firsthand, I was quick to learn what a blessing parenthood really is while also realizing the importance in finding a community of other people on this same adventure.

ECFE

I started ECFE when my first son was 10 months, and have continued my involvement with each of my children. I grew up in the program, and knew I wanted the same experiences for my own kids. I was sure they would love the time spent The DeMartino family together in free play, circle times and experiences program. This includes volunteering time planning and with children of their same age. And they did. But what sponsoring community events, preparing fundraising was new to me, what I learned about myself, was how opportunities, providing input about the program, and much I appreciated and needed the time in this program spreading public awareness about ECFE. We meet once for myself. I discovered a network of educated, caring a month and are always eager to welcome new members and genuine teachers while also finding a community who wish to take part in our events or offer new ideas on of parents in the same life stage. I valued the time spent ways to better support the ECFE program. Applications with my children here, while equally looking forward to are available in the main office of the Crystal Lake my time spent in parenting. It was here I could celebrate Education Center (CLEC) located at 16250 Ipava the joys of parenthood and seek advice for the moments Avenue. that left me unsure. I also gained valuable knowledge This year we are excited to focus our energy on fun as I went through each stage with my children; infancy, toddlerhood and the preschool years. I learned to parent family events in an effort to promote a sense of from a place of intention while also feeling supported in community with families involved in the program. We are also continuing fundraising opportunities while moments that did not go as I would have envisioned. I exploring new ideas to further support the program. am grateful for the experiences the ECFE program has given my children, and equally grateful for the guidance The following are a few of the events sponsored by the Advisory Council: Books and Beyond Storytime, Fall it has given me as a parent. Open Gym Kickoff and scheduled Open Gyms, Barnes In an effort to become more involved, I became part and Noble Fundraising Event, and the Vehicle Fair. For of the ECFE Advisory Council. Early Childhood Family Education What is Early Childhood Screening? Early Childhood Screening (ECS) is a FREE developmental screening required for all preschool-age children by the State of Minnesota. It includes a developmental screening and a vision, hearing, height, weight and immunization review. Early childhood developmental screening helps a school district identify children who may benefit from district and community resources available to help in their development. Early childhood developmental screening includes a vision screening that helps detect potential eye problems but is not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam. ECS is required for every child. In order for your child to start kindergarten in any Minnesota public school as well as many preschools, you will need to provide proof of ECS.

Is your child 3 years old? Then it is time for ECS! Children do not do better by waiting until they are older. The optimum age for screening is 3 1/2.

Key Information:

• Children currently on the school census will automatically be scheduled for a screening appointment before their 4th birthday. We will mail you a packet with your scheduled appointment time. • Screenings are held on Tuesdays and a few Mondays during the school year. If you do not receive a letter with an appointment or are new to the community and not on the school census, please call our message line at 952-232-3000 #3. • Appointments are for parent and child together and take approximately 45 – 60 minutes. • Screening is held at Crystal Lake Education Center, 16250 Ipava Ave. • You will receive a summary sheet and the forms will be sent to your child’s elementary school before entering kindergarten. • Questions? Call 952-232-3000 #3 and leave a message. We will return your call.

Young children are naturally curious explorers who are eager to discover information about the world around them. Children learn scientific concepts by exploring observing and investigating materials and ideas. These experiences provide the foundation for abstract and scientific thought. For students ages 3-6 that are

independently toilet trained.

Friday afternoons,12:30-3:00 pm at the Crystal Lake Education Center:

• Experiment with the properties of matter (hard, soft, float, sink, solid, liquid). • Use our five senses to observe, explore, and experiment with scientific phenomena (hands-on science). • Uses simple tools (eye droppers, magnifying glasses) to explore and gather information. • Investigate by collecting, describing, and recording information.
