He was fourteen years old and was an indentured servant. John died January 6, 1718, in New Kent County, he married Margaret ---- who died December 31, 1718 in New Kent County. John and Margaret Maddox’s first son, John, was born circa 1697; died 1749, in Goochland Co., Va. In 1719, he acquired title to Lot #9 of Yorktown’s original plot. He married Ann (Wilson?) by 1718. They resided in new Kent Co. until at least 1725. John purchased land on Muddy Creek, Goochland Co., ca 1732-1740. His second wife, Elizabeth Sherwood, died 1773, Amherst Co. Among the children of John and his second wife was James Maddox, born ca. 1739; died after 1805. Born in Goochland Co., he lived in the portion of Cumberland which became Powhatan Co., in 1777. James married March 13, 1761 Ann (Nancy) Webster (b. February 1740) daughter of Nathaniel Webster and Margaret Steel. Their son, Samuel Maddox, born ca. 1765 was listed as head of household in Powhatan until 1797. He had purchased land in Cumberland Co., in 1787 and was carried on Cumberland’s tax records 1798-1815. In 1815, he moved to Campbell Co. Some family records say he traded his gun for his land. Mildred Ann Robinson Maddox, wife of Samuel, (born ca. 1764) was a daughter of William Robinson. William was son of Thomas, who was son of Thomas, who was son of Edward, who was son of Christopher. Christopher was born by 1615, and died prior to 31 August 1663.
