Honors Calculus Festival del Sol Exhibition Purpose - To showcase all the fancy math you’ve learned this year - To give you a chance to get creative with a concept or a problem that you’ve enjoyed Task Working individually or with a partner, pick any concept or problem from calculus and figure out a cool way to display it to the Festival audience. You can choose a problem/concept we’ve covered or come up with your own calculus problem. Products 1. Display – totally your choice. It can be a 3D model, a (good) poster, a video, an art piece, a comic, … anything as long as it’s done well. 2. Mathematical description – 1-2 page single-spaced typed description of math behind concept/problem. You must use Microsoft Equation Editor to make it nice and professional. Must be mathematically accurate and accessible to an audience that hasn’t necessarily taken calculus. Time You’ll have class time between now and Festival to work on the project. (Be mindful of your time, though: you will also have a challenge set to do!) Deadlines *** All deadlines are at the beginning of the class period *** No later than Friday, Project plan due (What are you going to Mar 18 present? How are you going to present it? Thursday, Mar 24 Draft of mathematical description due to critique partner Friday, Mar 25 Thoughtfully critiqued paper due back to author(s) Wednesday, Mar 30 Draft of mathematical description due to me Tuesday, Apr 5 Final project (display + description) due Grade Counts as a 50 point test/quiz grade broken down as follows: 25 points: quality of final display 15 points: quality of mathematical description 10 points: effective use of in-class work time / meeting deadlines
