ENVIRONMENT
We try to purchase socially and environmentally sound products when replacing office equipment and purchasing new office supplies. In the last year we have also made systems changes including the introduction of an end-of-day power down initiative.
We strive to work with companies who use their information for good and hope to contribute to positive environmental change. Through projects such as our HP Earth Insights interactive, Shred-It Recycling and Heifer’s Farming Nemo we helped our clients to effectively communicate powerful information, generate understanding, and encourage positive collective action towards creating a more verdant and sustainable world.
Through the implementation of efficiency measures, sustainability conscientiousness, and policy & system changes at our office we reduced our overall energy consumption and subsequent GHG emissions from 2013 levels. In 2014 FFunction purchased just 1567.41 kWh. We intend to continue this trend, and aim to further reduce our energy consumption by another 4% in 2014/15.

FFunction consciously strategizes for internal environmental sustainability and a reduced environmental footprint. Last year we introduced small-scale sustainability efforts and measures including eco-friendly and low impact cleaning supplies, FSC certified paper, responsibly sourced furniture & office supplies, and hazardous waste disposal & recycling programs.
Total energy consumption: 3501 kWh Total GHG emissions: 72, 540.72 gcO2eq* Scope 1: (none, no company car or direct company emissions) Scope 2: energy, GHGs arising from water usage cannot be calculated
2014: 31 186.83 gcO2eq
Of the 1567.41 kWh purchased, roughly 1551.74 kWh came from renewable hydroelectric power. 2013: 33 861.64 gcO2eq
Of the 1634.25 kWh purchase, roughly 1617.91 kWh came from renewable hydroelectric power.
We have implemented efficiency strategies to help lower the impact that our business pursuits have on the environment. We introduced an employee commuting initiative that encourages employees to do their part in lowering commuting emissions by walking, biking, or taking public transit, and we are happy to report that 100% of our employees currently use these methods to get to work. We use teleconferencing to reduce emissions arising from air-travel business trips whenever possible. *Grams of carbon dioxide equivalent

SOCIAL We like to focus our efforts in areas where we know our contributions are helping others. Whether communicating the community impact of a museum or laying out the labyrinth steps involved in bringing life-saving medication from the lab to the people, FFunction encourages understanding and education around complex issues. We aim to educate and inspire action, ultimately creating a lasting impact and legacy. Our aim is for at least 25% of FFunction’s projects to have a positive social impact. This minimum quota is an ongoing statement of who we are and how we do business.

8 TRANSPARENCY We believe that data can act as a gateway to greater transparency and understanding. As technology moves faster and faster, we want to harness it for progress and for people. In 2013/14 we have helped regional organizations such as the Region of Peel and Tourisme Saguenay Lac St-Jean reach greater levels of transparency with stakeholders and shareholders by communicating company governance and social/environmental stewardship. We have communicated Corporate Social Responsibility key performance indicators for organizations such as the United Nations Global Compact. In projects such as Mapping Iran , we helped visualize research that examines the Iranian web in times of censorship as well as oppression of voices critical to the regime. We also enabled public bodies and citizens to access open data for projects such as Open 511.
