2017 FAMILY INVOLVEMENT CONFERENCE

The Family Involvement Conference is based on the premise that active family involvement in the educational process is the key to student achievement and effective schools. The conference brings together in a common forum school administrators, teachers, community members, and parents to interact and address issues that are vital to students’ academic success and well-being. Attendance is free of charge. The District provides transportation, and fully covers the cost of participation, including room and meals. APPLICATION PROCESS Application (see reverse) must be submitted on or before September 28, 2017 by email ([email protected]) or in person at the School District of Philadelphia’s, Parent and Family Resource Center (440 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130). Random drawing to select participants will be held on October 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at the School District of Philadelphia. Presence at the drawing is not required to attend the conference.

ELIGIBILITY 1. Limited to parents/legal guardians of a student(s) enrolled in the School District of Philadelphia. The primary caregiver’s name must appear on the student’s profile. 2. Applications will be accepted from family members who have not attended the Family Involvement Conference in the past year. Registration will be accepted every other year, to allow new families an opportunity to attend the conference.

3. Attendance shall be limited to adults only. Children are not permitted to attend this conference. School is in session during this conference, and students will not be excused for attending. Families who are interested in attending will need to make child care arrangements for the duration of the trip. 4. Attend a conference orientation session prior to the trip. Sessions will be held at the School District of Philadelphia, 440 N. Broad Street on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 10a.m. and 5p.m. 5. You agree to provide turn-around training on information learned at the conference to parents at your student’s school, by January 31, 2018.

Completed applications must be submitted to the Office of Family and Community Engagement on or before September 28, 2017. You can submit your application by e-mail ([email protected]) or in person at the School District’s Education Center, Suite 114 (440 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130). Turn-around Training Information

All conference participants are expected to provide one turn-around training session for families at their school and submit a copy of the agenda, training materials, and sign-in sheet by January 31, 2018. The turn-around training needs to target all family members in the school, and not just members of the School Advisory Council or any other group. Before submitting your application, you will need to meet with your principal or parent engagement designee to schedule the date, time and location of your turn-around training, so you can fill out the information below.
