Applications and Admissions Admission process Prospective FIT students begin the admissions process by completing a SUNY application for admission. All prospective students who complete the SUNY application are included in the application counts in this report. Depending on the program in which students wish to enroll, additional application materials may be required. For Art and Design programs it is common for portfolios to be required.   Applications An application to a major that has been submitted to SUNY and uploaded into FIT's BANNER database of   Completed Applications An application to a major that is "actionable," meaning it can be accepted or rejected because all required documents (essay, portfolio, transcripts, etc.) have been provided by the applicant.   Accepted Application An application to a major which results in the applicant being offered a spot in the program.   Paid Deposit A Paid Deposit is an accepted application for which the student has paid the tuition deposit, indicating their intention to attend FIT.   Enrolled Applicant An accepted applicant who paid their tuition deposit and was enrolled in the major code they applied to as of the census enrollment date. Acceptance ratio The acceptance ratio is the number of accepted applications divided by the number of completed applic   Yield Rate The yield rate is the percentage of accepted applicants who enroll.   Admit type All "admit types" are included in this report. Possible admit types include first-time ever in college, transfers-in, lower to upper division transition, and new graduate students.

Race/Ethnicity Reporting guidelines and categories Management in 1997, which are currently used by the National Center for Education Statistics in IPEDS reporting. Information on citizenship status, Hispanic origin, and race is collected on students. Students who are not citizens or U.S. nationals are reported as nonresident aliens, regardless of how they respond to the Hispanic origin and race questions. Of the remaining students, those who indicate that they are of Hispanic origin are reported as Hispanic, regardless of how they answer the race questions. Hispanic origin, regardless of race. American Indian or Alaska Native A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community attachment. Asian Subcontinent, including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam. African-American A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands. White A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa. Nonresident alien temporary basis and does not have the right to remain indefinitely. Retention Rates Full-time Student An undergraduate taking 12 or more credits in a term. A graduate student taking 9 or more credits in a t   Degree-seeking student A student who has been accepted by and enrolled in one of the College’s Certificate, Associate, Bachelor, or Graduate degree programs.   Graduation and Retention, as used in the retention report If a student earned a degree with an award date within their first year of attendance at FIT (September 1 through August 31) and the award was recorded in the Banner system by the summer term, the student is counted in this report as graduated. If a student has not graduated within that timeframe and is enrolled in the fall term of their second year at FIT, they are counted as retained. Graduation Rates Cohort Students who begin a degree program in the fall semester. Full-time is defined as taking 12 or more credits in the first semester in the program. For the purpose of this report, a student who is enrolled in the immediately preceding summer semester is classified as entering in the Fall semester.   Determination of report outcomes Graduation, transfer, and FIT persistence are mutually exclusive outcomes in this report. Graduation status is determined first. Students who have earned a degree at FIT within the tracking period are included in the graduation rate. Persistence at FIT is determined by FIT enrollment status in the fall term following the three year tracking period. For the students who have not earned an FIT degree or persisted, their transfer status is determined through a match with the National Student Clearinghouse. Degree Awards Award Year Placement of a degree or certificate award in an award year is determined on the basis of the award date. For example, degrees and certificates with award dates from July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015 are included in the 2014-2015 award year. Degree awards included in this report Degree awards may be submitted to SIRIS in reporting terms after the award date. Those awards are included in this report in the award year based on the award date if they are reported within one term after the award year. For example, awards reported in the 2015 summer term (through August 2015)
