First Lutheran Church Minot, ND Director of Education and Family Ministry The expectation for the Director of Education and Family Ministry at First Lutheran Church is to provide education and ministry opportunities in which children and families are nurtured and challenged to grow in faith through a variety of experiences. Position Criteria: This person should be a well-organized, self-motivated team player who has a love for Christ. Personal qualities that go with this position are the ability to get along with all ages, patience, flexibility, creativity, good listening skills, a mature level of faith in God, and a working knowledge of the Bible. A degree in education or its equivalence, as well as experience in a congregational setting is desirable. The Director of Education and Family Ministry is a 10 month full-time position directly supervised by the Senior Pastor. Position Responsibilities: 1) Provide Leadership ! -Provide leadership, and long range planning for all ministry programs for children birth-9th ! ! grade and their families ! -Develop trusted relationships with children, parents, and other caring adults by visiting ! ! ! workplaces, attending sporting events, concerts and shows, and maintaining an online ! ! presence ! -Model prayer and devotion as a way of life ! -Regularly attend worship and assist in incorporating youth in weekly worship services
2) Research materials and resources to stay current on what is available in areas of education and ! faith formation opportunities for children, confirmation students, families, and adults.
3) Implement a faith based curriculum or program in the following areas: ! -Preschool ! -Elementary ! -Vacation Bible School ! -Parent and Family 4) Develop and Implement Family Ministry Programing ! -Maintain a Program Calendar ! -Church School PreK-Grade 6 -Bible orientation and presentation ! -Holy Communion Education for all ages ! -Seasonal/ Special Events involving families (Rally Day, Christmas Program, etc.) ! -Intergenerational Activities ! -Monthly special events for middle and high school youth ! -Recruit and equip older youth to lead and teach younger kids (Church School, VBS) ! -Plan and organize confirmation with the pastors
5) Communication ! -Effectively communicate the mission and happenings of First Lutheran’s Youth and Family ! ! Ministry through regular channels of communication including: Facebook updates, parent ! ! emails, texts, monthly newsletters. ! -Display bulletin boards and publicity poster displays ! -Participate in weekly staff meetings and report progress and concerns at this time ! -Participate in council meetings as requested ! -Submit a budget proposal to council each year
6) Recruit and Train ! -Recruit volunteers to teach church school, confirmation, and VBS ! -Recruit music leaders and coordinate song choices for music time at Church School, VBS, and ! ! during worship ! -Conduct background checks on all volunteers who work with children ! -Provide quality training to all Church School Volunteers ! -Provide quality training to all VBS Volunteers ! -Provide necessary materials to volunteer staff to prepare them to teach Church School ! -Provide necessary materials to volunteer staff to prepare them to teach VBS ! 7) Other ! -Read for personal growth ! -Attend continuing education and growth workshops as coordinated with the Senior Pastor ! -Run outside errands as needed ! -Reach out and encourage active participation within the community of faith at First Lutheran ! -Stay up-to-date with what’s relevant to youth ! -Network with other parishes and colleagues ! -Review annual evaluation from the Senior Pastor and look for areas of personal growth ! -Perform other duties as necessary
