Molesworth Cemetery
Message from the Chair The neighbour west of the Cemetery has questioned the boundary line. Cemetery property (land, shrubs, and trees) have been damaged. Since the surveys validate the property line and there is a fiduciary responsibility on the part of the Trustees of Molesworth Cemetery to protect the property rights of the Cemetery and plot owners, the Board has filed with the Small Claims Court seeking to recover damages. The matter is under review.

PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CEMETERY: YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS ARE VITAL Molesworth Cemetery began in 1869 and many of those early families have generations living today. Cemeteries provide a way for us to honour and celebrate loved ones who have passed. They also give meaning to us today by providing a bridge to our ancestors. Many of you likely have portraits and stories of those earlier generations and often remark how similar an aunt is to a long ago relative or how a child bears an uncanny resemblance to a distant forefather. These memories become stories for future generations and are really family heirlooms. As a small rural cemetery we depend on the generosity of plot owners; just as our ancestors had done generations ago. Of course, many things have changed, including reporting and financial responsibilities. Without your support there is no other source of revenue. The cemetery operation is funded by purchase of lots and the monies we receive from the Perpetual Care fund will repair only one stone per year. The Cemetery continuously strives to maintain and improve the grounds where our loved ones are resting. Your donations help us to do just that. Of course, if you prefer your donation go towards the upkeep of your family headstone, we would be pleased to direct your funds in that manner. We have many local volunteers who give of their time, for which we are very grateful. If you live outside the area we invite you to consider making a financial contribution to the Cemetery. Donations can be mailed directly to: Howard Mitchell, Treasurer 44851 Perth Line 86 RR 1 Listowel, ON N4W 3G6 You will be issued a receipt for your donation. We thank you kindly!
Landscaping Committee This year we convened a landscape committee to organize, select, and oversee the planting of 28 trees and shrubs in the Cemetery. Black Cedars were selected for the hedge on the west boundary and Fantasy Maples were chosen for the north east location. There are 3 trees failing on the eastern border that will need to be removed in the near future. Howard Mitchell, who is a Trustee, and his wife Betty, have worked tirelessly to keep the Cemetery grounds manicured and well-kept. This year alone they , along with Ellen Waldock, picked up close to 100 five gallon pails of walnuts from the grass. If you have ever had a walnut tree you know that their majesty comes at a cost! Thanks to Howard and Betty and to the landscape committee, Anne Mitchell, Bill Cullen for their time and hard work!
