Faculty of Color Collaborative Mentoring Program Mentoring, retaining, and providing support for faculty of color moving through the tenure-track process

What is the Purpose of this Mentoring Program? Despite efforts to diversify hiring and recruiting practices, the number of full-time faculty of color across the Washington State Community and Technical College (CTC) system has remained within 14-16% since 2010. Faculty of color experience systemic challenges that remain unaddressed; therefore, there is a need for both strong mentorship and more transparent support systems. By naming and challenging historical institutional barriers, this program will serve current faculty of color by   

Supporting and facilitating faculty development through both one-to-one and group mentor/mentee pairing; Developing a community to support the success and retention of faculty of color through the tenure process; Increasing collaboration and networking opportunities cross-institution.

While designed to support individual faculty members through their tenure process, this program will also indirectly  

impact future recruitment and hiring of diverse faculty and; improve the cultural climate of our institutions.
