Hwa Chong Institution Multimedia Essentials – Photoshop

Assignment1Photoshop (Pair) Creative Poster Editing with your Photos Task 1 (during and after 1st lesson): 1.

Take a digital picture of yourself (both members must have an image of yourself) using a camera hand-phone or digital camera. If you do not have a camera phone, you may ask your friend to take a photo of you from his camera device. Other way is that you can take from your form teacher the existing digital photo file that he/she has when your teacher did the class photo list (For this, Mr. Kent may be able to provide you as well, please refer to his blog post for the link where you can retrieve the class photo). Else, you can use your existing hardcopy (3R/4R) photo or passport sized photo for this exercise.

2.

Download the photo into PC from your camera device or scan your photo or passport sized photo into a digitized format i.e. myself.jpg

3.

Search for your favorite movie poster from the Internet. The poster must have at least TWO characters portrayed.

4.

Use Photoshop to “feather” both of your photo images or your photo “heads” and replace the two characters found in the movie poster*.

5.

Ensure the feathering technique is done naturally.

6.

You are encouraged to attempt more than two feathering of images if find appropriate on the poster.

*Please check that your final movie poster file in Photoshop has a Resolution of 72 dpi and the Width and Height is around 10-15 cm, if not adjust accordingly by going to Image > Image Size (see screenshot below). See below example showing one “feathered” image done on one character on the poster.

Your second task will be to retouch other part of the poster image using the image retouching skills learnt in the second lesson. You may wait till the second lesson for further instruction or read the lesson 2 blog post on what it is about. See Handout2Photoshop for guidance. Examples of the retouching that can be done are: -

to to to to

modify the existing movie titles to other title, clone another character, change the background, creatively enhance / add / remove items on the image.

8.

Save your edited Photoshop poster as jpg format.

9.

FTP / upload your edited movie poster in jpg format onto hwachong web server (you may use FTP account of either member of the pair group). If uploaded successfully, your finished product image can be viewed from a URL that looks something like http://www2.hci.edu.sg/y11hciXXXX/ZZZZ.jpg (where XXXX is your unique hwachong ID and ZZZZ is the name of the edited movie poster product in jpg format.) Please ensure the validity of the URL as you need to submit it to a form later.

10. Next, complete the form embedded in Mr. Kent’s week 2 blog post. The form, as shown in the print screen below, requires your group to fill in all members’ names, class, and index number, followed by brief description of the works done and tools used.

11. Submit by Week 3, Infocomm Studies lesson or 11.59pm or otherwise stated
