Band Camp Parent Meeting: Monday, July 24th at 7:00 pm in Central Campus Auditorium Dates for Band Camp: Sunday, July 30th 2017 (report to MCHS at 12:00 pm) to Friday, August 4, 2017 (will return to MCHS at 8:00 pm) Location for Band Camp: Transportation to Camp:
Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois Students are transported by School Bus to and from EIU. Two adult chaperones ride each bus.
Purpose: Band Camp prepares band and guard student performers for the fall marching season. Student performers learn and review marching fundamentals, parade marching, field drill routines and musical selections. It is strongly encouraged that all marching band and guard performers attend band camp as this sets precedence for the marching season. Housing: • Students are housed in college dormitories with males and females on separate floors. • At no time will males be allowed on female floors or females allowed on male floors. • Each dormitory room houses 2 students. Roommate sign-up is during summer sectional practices. • Each student will be provided with 2 sheets, 2 towels, 1 pillowcase and 1 pillow. • Each dormitory is air-conditioned. • Traditional style dormitory style restrooms/showers are available on each floor. Chaperones: • Each floor houses a minimum of 4 adult chaperones and usually at least one MCHS staff member. • Adults on each floor are of the same gender as the residents. • Chaperones are housed 1 per room (if space allows), otherwise 2 per room. • Each chaperone will be provided with 2 sheets, 2 towels, 1 pillowcase and 1 pillow. • Parents interested in being a chaperone contact: (
[email protected]) Basic daily schedule: See “Band Camp Schedule” document. Most of the day is spent outdoors in music or marching rehearsal. Meals: Band Camp fees include 14 meals beginning with breakfast on Monday, July 31st and ending with lunch on Friday August 4th. In the evenings, pizza (coordinated by adult chaperones) is available at optional additional student expense. Meals in Rantoul, IL en route to and from EIU (various fast food options) are also at student expense. Money: Students will need money for the meal breaks in Rantoul. Optional expenses might include evening pizzas, vending machine beverages/snacks, or arcade games. Clothing: Students should pack cool comfortable clothing made from lightweight fabric. Although weather conditions are typically hot and sunny, modesty (per the MCHS dress code) is required. Shirts that cover the entire torso must be worn at all times by both males and females. Black shirts and heavy denim pants will not be allowed during practice times for health safety reasons. Footwear: Athletic shoes are required during practice times. “Skate shoes” are discouraged for your own comfort and safety. Several pairs of good cotton socks are highly recommended. Flip-flops or sandals will not be allowed during practice times. Recreation: Recreational activities are provided in the evenings (all students must attend). Activities typically include use of the EIU campus pool, dance party in the dorm rec room, movie night, and trip to the Charleston Park District pool. Students also need to bring the following items as they are not supplied for them: Instruments, reeds, lyres, flip folder, swimwear, sun block, insect repellent and other personal items (shampoo, conditioner, etc.) Students may bring snacks and drinks like Gatorade. Energy drinks are not allowed and will be confiscated. Not Allowed: TVs, VCRs, hot plates, refrigerators, large stereo equipment, etc.
EACH STUDENT IS ALLOWED ONE PIECE OF LUGGAGE AND ONE PERSONAL BAG OR BACKPACK.
Band Camp Daily Schedule Sunday 12:00 pm – report time to HS 1:30 pm – departure time (stop enroute at Rantoul for early dinner- bring money) 5:30 pm – arrive at EIU (move in) 7:00 pm – evening practice 10:30 pm – curfew Mon-Thurs 7:00 am – breakfast 11:45 am – lunch 12:45 am – afternoon practice 5:00 pm – dinner 6:00 pm - evening practice 8:00 pm – evening activity (pool, dance, etc) 10:30 – curfew Friday 7 :00 am - breakfast 7:45 am – morning practice 11:45pm – short afternoon practice 2:00 pm – move out dorms/pack luggage 2:45 pm – load busses 3:30 pm – leave EIU (dinner enroute at Rantoul for dinner – bring money)) 8:00 pm – arrive at MCHS

See a uniform volunteer immediately if: • You forgot your black socks • You forgot your black gloves • You forgot your Drillmaster shoes • Your uniform needs repair – button, zipper, etc. Hang your uniform properly • Trousers – right side out, seams and pleats lined up, hang over hangar • Coat – hang neatly on hangar • Socks, Gloves & Drillmasters – stored in your garment bag • Garment bag – carefully zipped • Hat – stored in your hat box • Plume – returned to uniform volunteer staff Suggestions: • Keep extra black socks in your garment bag! • Write your name in your Drillmasters!
