About Yellow Nepal
• yellownepal.co • Kathmandu, Nepal • A location-based service for restaurants, deals and events • 5 employees • June 2014
Yellow Nepal is a location-based service for restaurants and food-lovers, listing all the restaurants around Nepal and offering deals and events. The restaurant business in Nepal is worth a surprising $100 million annually. But, until the Yellow Nepal app arrived, there was nothing to connect hungry foodies with restaurants tucked away down tiny backstreets and alleys. Now, foodies don’t have to waste time searching for restaurants and owners can market directly to potential customers. Although the app is only at Beta stage, 400 restaurants have already signed up and the service has an impressive 5,000 users. The mobile revolution may have reached Nepal, but the challenge is to make sure people know how the app helps them. Yellow Nepal has been investing in educating users and restaurants about the benefits. Indirectly, this is also making users more Internet-literate and ultimately helping businesses in Nepal go global. Android is at the heart of the Yellow Nepal app, Google Maps is used for showing restaurant locations, and Google Analytics for monitoring the number of people using the site and app, including data on where they are located. This is vital information that enables key business decisions to be made. Right now, as co-founder and CEO, Anish Shrestha says, Yellow Nepal is “the biggest authentic, real-time data source of restaurants and food menus in Nepal, even though we don’t go live until the end of December 2014. As we develop, we may well branch out into table reservation or food delivery systems. At the same time, we’re part of a growing new business dimension in Nepal, which is really exciting.”
