Catawba County Health Educator Wins State Award Smith Honored with NC SOPHE Grace Daniels Promising New Health Educator Award

Lindsey Smith, RHEd, CHES, a health educator with Catawba County Public Health, was honored September 30 with the Grace Daniels Promising New Health Educator Award during the North Carolina Society for Public Health Education (NC SOPHE) awards banquet at Undercurrent Restaurant in downtown Greensboro. The awards banquet was one of the many activities coinciding with this year’s joint NC SOPHE/Healthy Carolinians Conference held at the Greensboro Downtown Marriott. The Grace Daniels Promising New Health Educator Award is given by NC SOPHE to recognize a new health educator in North Carolina who has made outstanding contributions to the profession. The award honors the late Grace Daniels, former chief of the Office of Health Education with the North Carolina Division of Health Services (now the North Carolina Division of Public Health). “Receiving this award is an amazing honor,” said Smith upon receiving the award. “Health education is such a rewarding field to work in. I look forward to going to work every day because I get to do what I love most – helping people and educating them about how to live a healthy life.” Smith is a 2008 graduate of University of North Carolina Greensboro where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health Education with a concentration in Community Health Education. She is also a Registered Health Educator (RHEd) and Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES). Smith began her career as an intern with Catawba County Public Health in January 2008 and became a full-time employee in April 2009. She has been a member of NC SOPHE since 2009.
